Anyone know what/if you should tip marina personnel. For instance, they made an ice run for me ($2.00) and pumped out for me ($5.00). This marina is publicy owned but I think run by a private firm.

Well, I would have said $2-3 for the pumpout, but including the ice run, I would have probably thrown them an extra five. The shame about low-priced stuff is that is still the effort and convenience that you are paying for. I carry a bunch of fives along with my $100's and $50's that I used when filling up. In the scheme of things, $5 buys me a big smile and knowing that I did not undertip. Most of the gas dock employees are younger 'kids' who are looking for summer cash for college or whatever. I am glad to give them a little extra for whatever they do for me.

I always tip at the gas dock. I buy gas from my own marina and I figure taking care of those guys is good karma in the event I need something.

This weekend, I filled up (about 365.00 worth of fuel). Two dockhands filled the boat, one on each pump. I tipped them $5.00 each. Anytime I have my waste tank pumped out, I tip $5.00 to the dock hand. Anybody that has to come in contact with that crap deserves an extra few bucks.

+1. $5 seems about right. Maybe a bit less if you're a frequent customer.
