It's become obvious to me that people simply don't understand what NO WAKE means, or they just don't care. Tonight hanging out at the dock one boat after another came through our marina pushing a sizable wake while our boats slam off the dock. Finally one guy comes through pushing a massive wake, so a guy from our dock yells out for him to slow down. The guy in the boat start yelling back and threatning to fight our dock neighbor!

So my question is.... short of fist fighting everyone that breaks the no wake zone what do you guys do? Do you even bother yelling at them for fear of getting your boat vandalized later? I go to the Marina to relax not to fight, so I'm hoping to get some good suggestions from you guys on the best way to handle this. There are NO WAKE signs posted all over our marina

12 gauge with slugs. After a couple of rounds they don't know what to do. There boat is sinking so they want to come ashore, but some crazy person on shore is shooting holes in their boat.

Kind of puts them on the spot.

That stinks.....I'm sorry to hear that. Reminds of of when I see jerks throwing cigarette butts out the windows of their cars. They're all a-holes for sure, but like you said, short of a fist fight what can you do?

I suggest a police siren hooked up to a speaker/megaphone of some sort. Just flip the switch and sit back nonchalant like. Act as if you don't know where the siren is coming from and watch them freak out! Chances are they've been drinking and deserve to be scared crapless.
Probably not practical, but I think it'd be great. Even if they came up to you, you could blow it off with a laugh and tell them you're just a practical joker. Then give them a beer.

HAHA I love it! I leave my guns at home since I figure nothing good can come of it when I have been drinking in the sun all day and have loaded guns in the boat. Although I do plan on keeping my S&W .40 under my pillow when we actually anchor out over night on the lake...just in case someone wants to play pirate in the middle of the night.

What are the odds...I said this same thing almost word for word to my wife on the way home tonight! These are great suggestions keep them coming!

We had the same from a neighbor in the cove I stayed in for a while. One eve as they were getting back, I trimmed up about half, and drove past at half throttle. They NEVER did that again.

Our marina has a long no wake zone, most people respect it but some dont. I have seen a couple pretty big arguments, there is a few self appointed no-wake police who yell at people they think are going too fast and it escalates pretty quick sometimes. Alcohol tends to amplify the situation..

Problem is the people driving by know exactly where you and your boat are if you yell at them. On weekends during peak season they usually park a wildlife or sheriff boat at the entrance and that keeps most in line - plus gets a few BUI busts for them. But during the week a lot of people just cruise right on by.

What I hate is when people raft up in a NON no wake zone near the middle of the main channel and yell at people going by for going too fast..

This is when you do what Walt suggested and do a few donuts around them. You know, kind of like being in a wash machine....

Its not even worth it, when you have 20 people with beer muscles screaming not much you can do but just ignore them and drive on by. Like the OP said I go to the boat or dock to relax, not try to get in a fight.

We allways have a seadoo nearby. Just take it out and splash them with a huge jet of water. It drives me crazy that they cant slow down for a 1/4 mile distance.

We have a giant set of flashcards that an old-timer gave me. Nice wake a##H####. It has other fun sayings but I like that the best. Used it this weekend, a group of us rafted up and some guy looking for bathing suits went right next to us plowing water. Broken fender holders and some scratches. The sign went up and he acted like- what did I do?

LOLOLOL, I love the flash card idea, that just cracks me up. I might get some of those. We don't have a "no wake zone" in front of our place, but, what we get are those idiots that don't keep the proper distance from the shore and docks. So they come by and rock the S&%T out of our dock and equipment. Honestly, while standing on the end of my dock, its hard not to raise my hands up and say "REALLY!!!!" I often thought of getting a paint ball gun, but then Im no better than them and would undoubtedly cause a fight, even though they deserve a paint ball to the side of the boat.

Yes although not very often. Only when I know it's going to be just my wife and I in a remote area. Here's a scenario for you.

The guy that my neighbor yelled at, was the wrong guy to yell at. The guy was a MASSIVE juiced up 300lb hillbillly. He looked like mister clean on steroids and sounded like the WWF wrestlers on t.v. Now here's the problem...our neighbor yelled at him while standing in front of our boat. Lets say this guy is still pissed someone yelled at him and he comes back, see's our cabin lights on and thinking I'm the guy that yelled at him comes on our boat in a drunken steroid induced rage. Do you think our little plastic door will hold him off till 15 min later when the police arrive? The guy quickly knocks me out and now all that's left is my wife in the mid cabin in her pajamma's with some massive crazy goon...no thanks!

This scenario may sound crazy, but it is possible. I don't want to be trapped in the mid cabin of our boat with no line of defense. I have taken gun safety classes and my wife and I both practice with our guns. Let me say that the use of a gun would be the absolutely last line of defense not the first in any given scenario. Even if some guy wants to fight me for whatever reason...I would take a good old fashion a$$ kicking over pulling out a gun, since once the gun is pulled out it takes the conflict to a whole new level. For the record Indiana is a right to carry state.

Just FYI, a guy one dock over in our marina owns an auto repair shop, so he has his ccw, he was just telling me yesterday that he left strait from work to bring his boat to the marina last week from down river where it was being serviced, and the coasties pulled him over for a vessel inspection, the first question asked was there any guns on board.

He told him yes he was carrying. They immediatly told him to put his hands in the air and they removed the gun from his person. They ran him thru the ringer for over an hour before giving him his gun back and making him put it below, only then did they give him his ammunition back.

As I was listening to the story, I was a little frustrated, here he is law abiding business man with a legal ccw, who was just going to report to them that he was carring before they asked and they acted like he was a damn criminal.
