Spent 4 days up in Grand Lake Co with friends. Anchored down and watched the fireworks show on the water. Awesome time. Some of these are at neighbor Granby Lake, water was like glass. Camping was fun, we had a Moose come up to our cabin!

was sitting on the porch of the cabin looking up weather on my phone when I heard rustling, I stood up, peeked over the ledge and was face to face with the moose. Not thinking, I started taking pics instead of going inside. LOL |

I was on Granby a couple of weeks ago and saw that same Bald Eagle...was it up the river a little bit from Granby? Has the water come up? |

It was just at the end of that side channel where the no wake area is. The water has come up a bit on Granby, Shadow Mtn Lake is still low though. I did get to see for the first time, a deer swimming across it. |

I used to spend lots of time at Granby, Grand and Shadow Mountain Lakes as a kid. Too bad I can't get out that way for a trip with the SS. I'm sure the GF wouldn't get in the water. |

We too were up at Grand Lake, CO for the 4th. Excellent time, fantasic weather this trip. Had a small black bear come into the courtyard of the condo complex and climb up a tree for an hour or so. that was unexpected, and pretty cool to watch, I'll have to post a couple of pics. Caught some decent trout over on Shadow Mtn. Lake, watched the fireworks from the boat and experienced the natural surround sound of the fireworks echoing throughout the surrounding mountains...love that. Would recommend this trip to anyone who hasn't been up there yet. Going back to Steamboat Lake next year. They have a fantastic fireworks show in town on Howelson Hill, river rafting down the Yampa through town and plenty of places to grab a cold one. |

Hey Tom, where in Parker are you? I'm in Canterberry. My favorite part of the show is listening to the echo off the mountain. Its amazing. We didn't realize the town had a flyover planned that morning. I was un-tieing at trailridge marina when 4 tomcats flew right over me. It was awesome. Ive only been to Steamboat once. I was thinking of taking the boat out there. |

To either of you... Do they still do the "Boat Parade" on Grand Lake with everyone all lit up, at night? I remember someone with a sailboat that would make it look like a dragon! I thought it was a 4th of July thing, but memory could be clouded by the years. |

Hey Walt, I saw boats decorated about 3 years ago, now its fewer and fewer. I saw one that was really decked out this weekend, others (including mine) had a few lights strung on them. The highlight is watching everyone run to the channel after the show and bottle neck under that bridge. All the drunks sit on top and cheer the boaters going through. Ive gotten smart over the years, we anchor down, wait for it to clear. |

We heard about the channel mess and decided to stay clear of it altogether and watch from the North end of Shadow Mtn. Still had several folks screaming by us in the dead of night after it was all over, crazy. We were out tubing with the kids when the jets flew over. They went very low over Grand Lake (below tree line) then hit the afterburners and shot straight up over the mountain, very cool to watch. Caught us off guard as we were not aware they were in the area, chilling to watch... I am over in Stonegate in Parker. All in all it was a great weekend, I will certainly do it again. Going to skip it next year, I miss Steamboat. We lived there for a number of years and our heart is in that town, lots of great memories. Maybe we will go back in 2013, I will miss Grand Lake for the 4th by then. We also head up there in the winter to ride our snowmobiles. That is a very good time, I highly recommend it. The town turns into a snowmobile village where everyone drives their snowmobile where they would a car in the summer. To the trails, back into town, to the bar, restaurant, store, wherever. Its very peaceful at night as lots of snow is falling and a ton of fun for the kids. |

I do have a question for anyone that takes their boat up to high altitude (starting out at 5280 then going up to ~8500 ft.). We experience a significant power reduction due to the lack of oxygen at higher altitude. Was looking into EFI conversion (too much $$, and dependency on electronics concerns me away from home) but decided against it. Also heard we could have the carb re-jetted for high altitude, but then we do significantly more boating at 5280ft. than we do up at 8500ft. so I wouldn't want to affect our performance around Denver just to get a little more power up in the mountains. I have a 14* pitch prop on now to get the maximum torque for pulling a wakeboarder up out of the water, top speed is not really a concern, more after torque with a few people in the boat and still trying to pull a skier/wakeboarder behind us fast enough to get them out of the hole and keep them up on the surface. Currently, we have to offload folks and keep only a couple people in the boat as we tow a wakeboarder. Not a huge problem, but it would be nice to have more people in the boat and still have enough power to pull a wakeboarder. We have an older (1988) H200 with the 5.0 v8. It runs strong, just not all that much power or speed out of the hole when we have 3-4 people in the boat at high altitude. When we are down in Denver area (5280ft.) we seem to do fine. Any ideas that wont break the bank? As you can see by the age of our boat we are all about not having a boat payment! |
