Ok...this may be a dumb question but before I go crazy trying to find this thing I want to gather some opinions.

My genset stopped pumping water and the obvious culprit was the impeller. I pulled the cover off this afternoon and sure enough it's time for a new impeller. One vane was completely gone and another was half gone. Sitting in the housing was the piece of a half vane. The full vane is nowhere to be found. I pulled off the hose connecting the impeller housing to the heat exchanger (or wherever it goes) and it wasn't sitting in there either. At this point I don't know if it's hung up somewhere in the genset or it was possibly broken up into little pieces and worked it's way through the system and out the exhaust or what. My guess it was broken up into little pieces as the outlet looks too small for the vane to fit through....but then again, me and Murphy's Law don't always get along so well.

What's my next step? Put in the new impeller, fire it up, and hope water comes out the exhaust or start pulling things apart to find this little piece of rubber?

Wealso lost the genny impeller at the start of the season and couldn't find all the pieces either.

Decided to just put the new impeller in and fire it up and all works well.

After getting my service bill for my genny....I need to be at least doing the impeller/oil change on it myself. WOW

Considering its no more complicated than a law mower and takes all of 30 minutes to change both assuming easy access , yes definitely do.
