I have a 2005 vista 288 with volvo ocean series outdrives. I have a problem with the neutra salt system in the port engine that it is not working. I can't find any wiring diagrams and I assume it is gravity fed with a soleniod controlling the switch from the dash board. Is there anything I should be checking and where can I buy parts if needed. |

Yes, the switch operates a solenoid valve between the reservoir and engine water inlet hose; I'm not certain it's entirely gravity feed, when water is flowing in the hose it will tend to cause some suction on the neutrasalt inlet. From what I saw when I installed it in my previous boat and the current installation made on my 2004 boat in 2005, apart from a faulty solenoid/ valve, things that might be wrong; Electrical; Power to switch ? (standard harness has a fuse) Power getting from from switch to solenoid? Other side of solenoid is connected to -ve somewhere, is that OK? Mechanical Vent in reservoir cap blocked? The later Neutrasalt systems have a check valve in the line; if yours has, it it blocked? Has it ever worked? If not, is the check valve fitted the correct way around?! It might of course just be the solenoid valve; if so, I'm sorry I have no idea where to get one from apart from VP. Some general advice for anyone fitting Neutrasalt, keep an eye on the Neutrasalt level; my original one had a solenoid valve that didn't shut off completely; an expensive discovery when i found all the Neutrasalt solution had gone and was all over my house drive ( as unit was out of warrranty, I fitted a small ball valve in line.) I can check the standard wiring colours for you in a couple of hours if that's any help. Regards, Graham |

Thanks for the quick reply! The side I am having problems with always was slower than the other side. now it just stopped. I'll look at some of your suggetios and see if they work . |

Dumb question here, what does this system do? I'm not familiar with ocean drive systems... Does it remove the salt from the cooling system? |

Neutrasalt is a solution that is claimed to neutralise the effect of salt, to prevent or at least reduce corrosion. It's sucked into a t-piece that's fitted to the water inlet pipe just before the oil cooler. It can be fitted to any sterndrive, not just the ocean series. I can't remember the exact instructions, but the switch is depressed to dispense the solution for something like 30 or 40 seconds whilst the engine is still running then the engine is switched off, leaving the raw water cooled areas filled with saltwater + neutrasalt. Well I got out to the yatch today and took the system apart. The container and the solenoid valve had a bunch of gooey blue/green stuff which cleaned out pretty easily. Don't know what it was but it was only in the port engine side ..... |
