On Sunday we cleaned and waterproofed our canvas with no rain in the forecast. Then we left Beaverton for Georgian Bay for a weeks cruise. First stop for the night was Orillia. That night it poured like crazy and the waterproofing hadn't cured yet. Upper deck completely soaked. We stayed another night to dry out because the windows kept fogging up. The other 2 boats carried on. The next day was windy as hell so we decided we should stay put another night. The next day I found out my brand new VHF pooched. Georgian Bay now cancelled. We have been cruising Lake Couchiching and Simcoe. Currently staying in Lagoon City and having a good time.

Here's where it gets good. We heard from the other boats and they're having a real bad trip. The weather has been crap and one of the boats died in the bay yesterday. The other boat towed him in and headed for home today. Turns out his fuel pump croaked and the part wont be there till tomorrow. Sooooo tomorrow, I'd be crawling around in a dirty bilge fixing his problem while on vacation. The boat thats on it's way back will be in the Severn tomorrow with more nasty weather on the way. We'll stay in Lagoon City another night for weather reasons,,,,oh who am I kidding,,,there's drink specials tonight at the marina bar.

To sum things up, I saved $136 on a lock pass,,,about a grand on fuel,,,under a covered slip during the crap weather except the first night,,,didn't have to get stinkin dirty doing a fuel pump,,,cruised when it was nice and having a blast! Anyone think I should buy a lottery ticket?

Wow, what a time and sounds like you got the better end of it! Still great memories and time to yourselves.

Don't go and buy a lottery ticket now, with your luck I'm sure you'll find the winning ticket on the street and save yourself the dollar!

That's what I call making lemonade when you get lemons! A fantastic trip if you had planned it that way in the first place. Cheers!

Glad you're okay!

I was looking at some marine electronics, looks like the new garmin chartplotters all come with the XM sat weather feature. Could that have helped you?

Thanks guys. ric, CG weather reports were good and intellicast radar showed clear,,,,just one of those freak rain storms. The canvas is new last year and if the waterproofing had 24 hours to cure, we'd been fine.

Just got an update from the broken down boat,,,,the fuel pump didn't fix it. They say the carburetor is pooched now. Not good on a Friday of a long weekend. That lottery ticket is looking better and better
