I have zero experience with the transon shower and holding tank on my Coast Runner and am looking for advice. Now that I got the pump working, the water has a nasty smell to it. The water in the tank is about 3 weeks old. Am I supposed to add a chemical to it? Now that the boat is moored in the Long Island sound, changing the 6 gallons of water is a little tricky. Is there anything to do in the future to avoid the stagnant water odor?

Put about 1 cup of bleach in the tank and fill it up. Let it sit for a few hours. Turn the pump on and open each faucet one at a time to ensure the bleached water is flowing through the lines. Run the tank empty and fill it again with water only and again run all faucets to flush it out. Empty the tank and fill again. They sell water tank additives to help keep future water fresh....West marine, RV section of Wal-Mart etc...

I bleach my tank at the start of every season and flush it lots after. I have my water in my tank for a weeks or more sometimes and never have a problem. I don't put anything in it.

we use the water year round in the summer I use the treatment with every tank, in the winter I only treat it once a month. Almost 3 years and no funk.

I've use some additive, and have also got an in-line water active carbon/ silver purifier/ filter; bought from a caravan store, not a marine outlet as it was quite a bit cheaper. It seems to work OK. I thought I was going to have to use adaptors to fit it to the 15mm pipes on the boat, as caravans in the UK use 13mm; However, the unit itself is designed only for 15mm pipe and came with adaptors for 13mm pipe ! So, a marine unit but not in a marine box, sold with extra adapters for less than one in a "marine" box !
