Its a good lake, havent stayed anywhere there recently, blue springs marina was the last time I stayed there and it was pretty decent. You can head east through Loudon lock and go to downtown Knoxville or Tellico lake. Or head down to Chattanooga and dock downtown which is pretty cool. I'm on the other side of the lock from Watts Bar but I venture over there fairly often for a change of scenery and the kids still get a kick out of going through the lock.
Its nice scenery and you are limited to how much gas you to burn, you can go all the way to the Gulf of Mexico from Watts Bar if you are so inclined. Lots of coves to anchor and swim or whatever and during the week you can have the whole thing to yourself pretty much. Just make sure and have a chart or detailed GPS, it can get pretty shallow in spots off the main channel. Activecaptain.com has a pretty cool interactive map that shows most of the marinas.
