Has anybody spent anytime on Watts Bar Lake? If so where did you stay? Is this a good lake? |

Its a good lake, havent stayed anywhere there recently, blue springs marina was the last time I stayed there and it was pretty decent. You can head east through Loudon lock and go to downtown Knoxville or Tellico lake. Or head down to Chattanooga and dock downtown which is pretty cool. I'm on the other side of the lock from Watts Bar but I venture over there fairly often for a change of scenery and the kids still get a kick out of going through the lock. Its nice scenery and you are limited to how much gas you to burn, you can go all the way to the Gulf of Mexico from Watts Bar if you are so inclined. Lots of coves to anchor and swim or whatever and during the week you can have the whole thing to yourself pretty much. Just make sure and have a chart or detailed GPS, it can get pretty shallow in spots off the main channel. Activecaptain.com has a pretty cool interactive map that shows most of the marinas. They close down and change owners fairly often so phone first ![]() |

kp47 --- I find your reply interesting as I own a lot on the lake (well across the street from the water and have a deeded boat dock) there. Unfortunately almost everyone who purchased was looking at the "future" which may not happen, and there are only about five houses built in a subdivisiion of over 300 lots. My guess is a lot of them are for sale -- I would sell mine if I thought there was any market. I have of course looked at the lake --but never had my boat on it. |

A lot of subdivisions died around here when the bubble burst in 2007-8, especially the high end ones. Luckily real estate around here didnt spike like a lot of other areas so you will probably OK money-wise if you go to sell if you paid a fair price. Instead of prices dropping bad people have just stopped building, but 1/2 acre lake or lake access lots outside of Knox county can be had for 30K or so depending on location, there are quite a few large lake subdivisions they started that never went anywhere. Never know how it going to go but right now probably isnt the time to sell. |
