I am out on the lake right now and my boat has gone into limp mode and won't come out of it. Is there a way to clear the codes manually?

2001 Volvo Penta 7.4

You could try to disconnect the battery for fifteen minutes then try again.

Let's start basic.

Good connections on the battery and nice & tight
Oil level OK?
Temp of the motor OK. Impeller working and pumping water?
Belt turning freely - all turning freely
Weird smells or oily bilge?

Turn off all accessories

If you have a diagnostic trouble code or DTC as we say in the trade, it's not a good idea to clear the DTC. For example, if the coolant temperature sensor or CTS goes out of range, the ECM or elecronic control module will command the engine inputs to go into "limp home" mode, thus saving your engine from any catastrophic damage. If you erase the DTC, it may take a while for the CTS to act up again. The tech who diagnoses your boat will need that DTC history intact to do his job.

Best of luck,
John

Yeah, I loaded it on the trailer and brought it home. I will be speaking with my mechanic tomorrow and probably hauling it to him on Tuesday. Hopefully nothing major, being in Florida, we still have some time to get some more fun in!
