The lake was absolutely beautiful on Saturday and I had a blast out there. Nicest day this year and it was like glass. Got to play with drive trim and the tabs and had her cooking around 45 mph a little over half throttle. I'm liking this boat more every day. Come time to dock her she did not want to rotate to port to set up for my backing up entry to my slip. She's been hinting of this lately and I thought it was drive overhaul time this winter for new clutches. This time wasn't a hint though,,,it was serious. Got her in without mishap on one engine. On Sunday I raised the drives and scribed marks on both inner and outer prop hubs,,dropped the drives and ran a few seconds in forward and took a look. Still lined up. Repeated in reverse and BINGO,,,,port prop was out about 90 degrees.

That sure beats me overhauling both drives this winter  but before I write a letter to Santa, does anyone know if an elf can make stainless props?

What were your RPM's at "a little over half throttle" ? WOT with that boat is approx. 47mph with the stock 14-1/2 x 19 props. Something seems odd that you had that much throttle left and only 2 mph or so to gain. Was it a GPS reading or a Speedo reading ?

They were almost 4,000 and my GPS wasn't turned on but my speedo on the dash is as close as you can get,,,,about 1/2 mph off.

Understood. So it was more like the glass half full, or half empty. "A little over half throttle, or a little under WOT" I hope Santa brings you a nice set of Ballistic SS props (P/N 346063) for X-mas. You should just about hit 50mph with a set of those.

Thanks for the part number Cap'n.

I'll check this weekend,,,since i've never pinned her yet. To the eye, they looked like half way to the dash from idle but they could have stops not too far from where I had them.

The guy I bought her from told me there has been some performance mods done and I have all records from new,,,just never looked yet. Been saving those for the cold winter nights when the wifey's even colder since this is my first year with this boat.

I have the same boat. Last year while traveling to Suttons Bay, I had her going a bit over 60 mph. I got 10 miles to the gallon too! Summer ends this Sunday and Winter Sux. Dan

Image Dan, you will have to take me and my wife water skiing behind your 278, we like to ski at about 54 mph. Looking forward to it next summer.

Hey, I couldn't go 60 mph all the way. The hills slowed me down. Cut into my fuel economy too! When I passed people, I got up to 65 mph. Dan

I'm aboard now and checked the throttles and ya, they don't go to the dash. There are stops inside. Closer to 3/4 I'd say I had her. I stand corrected but WOT, she was not.
