Well...that time of year I guess. Put the boat away this afternoon. Found an amazing deal...$300 for indoor heated storage. That is less than 1/2 what the going rate is. Place has a security guard on site 24/7, kept at 60 degrees and rodent free. Only thing is I can't get into work on her or wax her at all during the winter which I am fine with. Can leave it there up until the end of April which is great. Guy just has extra storage space he does not use and decided to rent it out for boat/RV/cars etc. this winter. Best part is it is only 20 minutes from my house.

So good night girl...I will see you in April.

We tucked ours away for the winter this weekend too. Always a bittersweet time. Relief to have her all waxed, winterized, and tucked away before the weather turns--but a bummer realizing another season has come and gone. This year was costly too. I had to replace the ECM (computer)--which died on me Labor Day weekend. So needless to say--my wallet is quite a bit lighter now as we said good night for this season.

I also spent the weekend getting the boat winterized. There is something almost zen-like in going through all the steps to make sure the boat is ready for the coming cold. My profession involves spending most of my time in front of a computer analyzing data sets and simulating groundwater flow. Its nice to spend time turning wrenches and changing fluids. The scratches and scabs on my hands indicate that I did something real this weekend.

We went for a run on Lake Tahoe last Wednesday. It was very calm, sunny, and 75 degrees making the trip nearly perfect. We cooked lunch in Emerald Bay and left the lake at dusk. The forecast for Thursday is for snow at lake level (6,200 ft). The seasonal change is always rapid in the Sierras from gentle falls to the winter storms. At least this year I am not going out at midnight to put a heater in the engine compartment when the weather unexpectedly turns freezing.

Normally i am running to the lake thru the end of October, but this year has been bad for boating around here. NO WATER ! The drought has killed the local lakes - our usual lake is essentially unaccessible. Way to low for safe boating/watersports. I made 1 trip this year and water was way way down then, which was in July. Drought continues - i can literally walk from the normal boat launch area to were we normally go.

So - this weekend I will be pulling her out of storage, removing the top and firing her up one last time on the muffs. Fill with fuel, treat it, charge and shut down battery, drain all the water - treat the vinyl. lube the fittings and put her up for the winter. I just changed the engine oil, drive oil, fuel and oil filters and impellor and it only saw 3 hours run time, so i am not swapping again. I still can't even see the oil on the stick it's so clean. She's even spot free from the last wax:(
