http://www.marinepartsexpress.com/engine_flush.html Here is what I found but I was under the impression and I also read somewhere that you are not supposed to run the engine with a hose connected to engine that it was only to flush the engine while it was off. I have been connecting the muffs to the outdrive and flushing it that way but considering this kit for sale I am wondering if I can just connect the water hose to my connection in the engine and flush away. Awesome it seems like the impellor would get much better water pressure with the hose connected that way. On a side note jeez what are these water hoses made of gold! Trying to get a good deal on the hot water pickup hoses and they are over forty dollars for one and the others are not much better. What is your favorite place to buy parts from? |

Joe, you are better off flushing with the muffs while she's running. This way, your drive and the entire system is being cleansed of salt water. If your raw water pump (impeller) is in your drive, it will be running dry when you run your engine on the blue hose, thus killing it, real fast. You also have a circulating pump at the front of your engine. This will circulate the water through ALL parts of the cooling system much better than the blue hose can. John

The impeller is on the front of the engine. I am going to call Volvo tomorrow and see what they say. My friend told me at the hose it increases water pressure to the impeller at the front of the engine which is good since low water pressure fries impeller. |

The thing you have to watch out for is not to run the engine at anything above idle and then not for very long. Otherwise your hose won't be able to provide enough flow to keep the engine cool and the impeller wet. As the engine revs up the suction it pulls is enough to collapse any garden hose you might have connected to it, worsening the water starvation problem. With luck all you'd do is destroy the impeller, not overheat the engine... |

The hose adapter is the only way I rinse my engine out, I have not had any problems with over heating ruining the impellor or any of that junk, I dont turn the hose up full blast just about medium, I then start the engine an let it idle run until I feel the thermostat open, I then run it for 2-3 minutes after, it takes about 7-10 minutes to complete this and is super easy and works just as good if not better than muffs, my Sealoc manual also suggests this method.....I know it doesn't hurt the impeller because I pulled mine and it looked new.
