So I finally got out the GPS. Checked it with car, it's spot on.

2000 Four Winns H180 3.0. 1/4 tank gas. Just me (180lb). Air temp in the high 60s. Water? Glass. 14x19 prop

57mph @ 5100rpms!

Yep, that boat will go much faster than that on the trailer being pulled down the interstate. :|
You got 5100 RPM's out of your TV at only 57mph? Must have been in 2nd gear......

I'll have to double check the GPS.

It read 56-57 mph for a good 10 seconds. Maybe the outdrive gearing is different. My boat easily beats my neighbors 2003 Yamaha GP800r out of the hole and top speed.

Good thing you figured that out. Just think of how much differently you'd view things if it only got up to 54 MPH.

57 out of a 3.0? that's crazy!...I've got more than 2 of your engines and mine's doing all she's got at 50 mph. I can hit 52 at the rev limiter! Then again my home lake's only about 3 miles from end to end, so top speed isn't that important.

Maybe that 3.0 litre engine is actually a 5.0 litre. :)

Mike.

Maybe a previous owner had substantial modifications done. If it's injected, a reprogram of the ECM, a larger throttle body, a set of injectors to handle a larger pulse width and a bigger gear in the drive, then 57 isn't out of the question at all.

You are more than welcome to borrow one of my old BlackBerrys I have kicking around

If you want good GPS results, use a Garmin or Magellan

Actually both Garmin and Lowrance marine GPS's I have read 1-mph higher than the speedo apps I tried on the iPhone.

But either way, I had a 2006 3.0 VP H180 (first boat when I moved to TN), it wouldnt do 40mph if I dropped it out of an airplane here at 1400' elevation with a full tank and two adults.

Exactly, and maybe "45 ish" means 39.867 mph ???? No way in hell it does 45 mph with a stock 3.0L and that sterndrive.

I have had good luck on my Android phone with the Speedview app. I have checked it on land, and compared it to 5 different boats with either Garmin, Lowrance GPS on board. It's quite accurate, for me at least. iPhone may be the culprit indeed.

Empty boat, 1/4 tank gas, just me (190lb)... Glassy lake. 50ft above sea level. Low 40s.

It runs great. RPM's were in the 5100 range.
