I live on a private lake with a board. Those old farts are thinking about installing no wake buoy's randomly everywhere. Are you freaking kidding me? It's a 500 acre shallow sandy lake. If you're not on idle within 200ft of shore you're buying a new prop. I'm attending their next meeting to have a say in this, I don't want no stinkin garish signs everywhere. I'm one of two boats that are on the water weekdays, and I've never seen more then 5 at the peak of summer on a weekend. Just tell us where to slow down for christ's sake.

Self confessed old fart Here! You say they are "thinking" of this measure. For what reason?
I think there is probably another side to this story you are holding back on.

Sounds like their goal is to only have sailboats and pontoon boats in that lake.

I really doubt they would go thru the trouble and expense of adding no wake buoys because they have nothing better to do. They might be trying to mitigate shoreline erosion in order to avoid an expensive dredging or shoreline reconstruction project in the future. I would attend the meeting with an open mind.

Eh, there's only two pontoons on the lake.. one party deck full of christmas lights and drunk kids and a tritoon with a 250hp slapped on the back that does 50+ across the water. I think they're worried about shoreline erosion. The problem is, the area in concern is western side of the lake. East coast florida has a sea breeze and our wind is 99% easterly. The wind generated waves are 100x worse the anything the 5 boats kicks up. The other areas they are concerned about are in 2ft of water for 200ft+. You couldn't get a boat close enough if you tried. I'll be at that meeting. I'm okay with no-wake zones, I don't want no stinkin stupid buoy's on a private lake when all they have to do is TELL US. We already got enough crap in the water because the local HS crew team uses the lake for practice and they have all their markers down one side of the lake. <-heated

This kind of thing is sort of inevitable if you live around Del Boca Vista long enough. Get a bunch of old guys together who were all probably "in charge" of something for most of their lives, and now they have nothing to do, so they do stupid stuff like this. We have a small private lake not far from here where the exact same thing happened. It just gives those people something to fight about.

The next phase will be half of those people trying to get the other half thrown off the board...

So the issue of concern isn't the no wake zone designation...its the means of marking those zones. Sounds reasonable on both sides to me. Private lake...just post some nice looking sketches of lake at the ramps and distribute maps to members showing the no wake zones. Tread gently cuz I assure you the wisdom of age will triumph. Go in with an attitude then you may be trading in the IO Gasser for a bow mounted electric troller.

Keep this in mind...those old fellas had enough forsight to get on the board..and be mindful that being on a boat isn't the only way to enjoy a lake....and the smaller the lake the more extreme the wake effect.....I'm not against you, but am older. My response to a statement like the easterly wind does more erosion than my boat would be something like......we will let God control the wind, but the board will control the boats.

As an older person I know positive solutions outweigh one sided bantering. Something like...posting of no wkae signage at lake access points..and money for bouys could be spent on shallow water folage that will reduce erosion and provide another dimension for wildlife habitat.

So just go take down their plastic pink flamingos. I know they have them.

I hate to say this ric but it appears the HOA nazis are going to have their way. First, the no wake signs on your pond and now the incarceration of your owl. Better learn to sail one of these because I have a feeling this is going to be your next boat:

Sunfish
