How did everyone's Valentine's day go?

For dinner I made Melissa some Japanese style seared yellowfin tuna, rice, zucchini, caesar salad, a nice white wine. For desert we had mango key lime pie.

That sounds great! We've kind of taken a different route with the whole Valentine's dinner in years past and this year was no different. Instead of our normal Taco Bell dinner and wine in front of the fireplace we mixed it up a little this year and got Papa Johns pizza and washed it down with a fine I.P.A. local brew.

I love a good local brew....not enough of them in Texas, but still....I love a good local!

Ric - looks like a great dinner! How'd you cook the zucchini?

This is how I made the Ahi

Seared Ahi Tuna Recipe
Prep time: 1 hour, 5 minutesCook time: 5 minutes
INGREDIENTS
2 (6-8 ounce) ahi tuna steaks (3/4 of an inch thick)
2 Tbsp dark sesame oil
2 Tbsp soy sauce (or 2 teaspoons of wheat-free tamari for gluten-free option)
1 Tbsp of grated fresh ginger
1 clove garlic, minced
1 green onion (scallion) thinly sliced (a few slices reserved for garnish)
1 teaspoon lime juice
METHOD
1 Mix the marinade ingredients together and coat the tuna steaks with the marinade, cover tightly, and refrigerate for at least an hour.
2 Heat a non-stick skillet over medium high to high heat. When the pan is hot, remove the tuna steaks from the marinade and sear them for a minute to a minute and a half on each side ( even a little longer if you want the tuna less rare than pictured.)
3 Remove from pan and slice into 1/4-inch thick slices. Sprinkle with a few green onion slices.

The zucchini I used the same pan after the Ahi and tossed in some homemade garlic butter, some salt, pepper. Simple yet... mmm.

I love my wife, but this pretty much sums up my feelings about Valentine's Day.

I agree. I make the best of it, but it's nothing but a F'n Hallmark holiday with no basis in anything national, religious, or anything else important. It just puts every male in the country in a position where they either spend $200 on crap for no reason, or they're a worthless cad. I'll end it during the first 10 days of my presidency, right after Obamacare.
