To my knowledege there isn't a good way to greases them, I you can excercise them with out breaking them then I would be inclined to leave them in, but rebedding them isn't a difficult job. You supply the beer and I'll make the trip down the QEW to help :mrgreen:

I am inclined to agree. How is the the bedding inside & out look?? Most seacocks are made of brass and are bonded to the boat. So the seacock itself, general is not a problem. I would replace and double up on all bands that have to do with any raw water pick up. Keep in mind, that there 12yrs old too, & it's cheap insurance to double them up if one was to let go.

Hi All,

This is my first spring with my boat and I have 2 12 year old seacocks. They are not siezed, stiff so maybe in need of greasing?

I'd like to know if I should consider replacing them while it's out of the water? Or should I leave them well enough alone, grease and inspect them? If I should grease them somehow, how exactly do you do that?

Good point, your response prompted me to do a bit of research and realized that it's 2 parts, seacock and throughhull. I'll have to take a look the next time I'm at the boat; if it looks good I'll just leave it.

And I don't work for Kleen Flo Thats way I love this forum, thats great!! The brake cleaner will not leave any crap behind. The Tef-Lube is made for that type of job!! This is my first boat with 2 seacocks, and this is good to learn. Yes, there is 2 parts to them. In some cases maybe 3. The thu-hull, a nipple or coupling and the valve. If you do take it apart, USE 2 wrenches. You don't want to spin the thu-hull fitting.

And I don't work for Kleen Flo Sounds like good advice, thanks! Is Tef-Lube something I can pick up at Canadian Tire? By your advice it sounds like I don't need to remove the seacock from the through hull, just remove the hose so I can access the moving parts (ie. ball). Did I understand correctly?

By doing one side, you might get some dirt out that you can't reach, than again you may not.

Remove the cocks from the intake hoses, thoroughly clean with brake cleaner and allow to dry. The reason I said remove them was so they could be cleaned thoroughly, not half clean. The other reason is, brake cleaner is VERY combustible. So when I say remove, that means from the boat. TIP: go buy a hose removal hook,,,for about 10 bux it will add years to your life. When installing the valve spray a little Tef Lube in the hose. You'll be glad you did now and if you have to take it apart again. The Kleen Flo part # as promised is 813
