fuel additives

What is everyone using (if anything) for fuel additives? I have been using the blue stuff star tron. not advertizing,just looking for feedback.

None. Runs perfect on E10 (3.0 VP with a Holley carb).

E10?? Does anyone use E10 on Mercruiser 3.0 LTR (181) engines in the USA??

Is E10 recommended for marine engines in the USA?

Any ethanol in Australia is not recommended for any marine engine, unless, its a inboard car engine or similar!

Giffo, I always run mine on premium unleaded - have to in order to prevent running-on.

In NSW all the unleaded is E10, the only way to avoid it is to go premium - either 95 or 98. I rang them up and asked them last time I went boating at Batemans Bay. The NSW Government does not endorse running E10 in boats at all.

I can't find a station anywhere in my area that doesn't have e-10. The dealer told me to use startron to prevent problems and I've been using it ever since. I buy it on sale for 5 bucks a bottle at VIP so it's a pretty cheap treatment. (treats 3 tanks)

Ethanol is everywhere here too. Can't avoid using it...I buy the unleaded plus for octane range and dump stabil ethanol trmt to every tank....helps fight the moisture buildup and gumming of fuel....ude it for my tractors, boats,riding mowers and dirt buggie.if u run the fuel thru frequently then r OK...its the sit up that whips ethanol ass.

I don't want to rehash the political banter on the linked post...I am just wondering what type of gas ( and additive) would my engine like best. 5.7 injected dp? We are at altitude if that plays into the mix. I understand the water absorption issue with ethanol...so what octane and or additive would be best.

You're fuel injected, it doesn't give two cares about ethanol gas just like the car you drive every day. It's only an issue on carb'd boats because the carb can not add more fuel, advance the ignition on it's own. There's not an additive in the world that can stop the water absorption, just make sure you run a fuel/water separator. They're like $10 and install in minutes.

I run Recreational fuel NON Etanol 90 Octane and I put a bit of stabil in it just in case I can't take it out for a couple of weeks. My boat just recently had ethanol issues with premium I let it sit for two months no stabil and ended up having to drain the fuel tank and get a new separator but now she is running fine on her Rec fuel and luckily for me it's only 5 miles from my house to fuel up and it's on my way to the marina.

Let anything sit for 2 months fueled up with fuel in the carb's bowls and it will run like crap. Ethanol gas or not.

hmmmm,,,according to the API, gasoline has a storage life of 12 months. I know that means from the "born on date" and it can take a while to hit the pumps. So what's the difference if that gas sits in your float bowls or your fuel tank for 2 months?

quantity? 1/2cup in the float bowls as apposed to 50,000gal tanks
