Very very expensive weekend. Besides the tire situation (look under trailer forum), my new rescue dog decided to eat my boat. I know this pic will be painful, but just another boating lesson learned the hard way.

WOW! My jaw fell to the floor after seeing these pics.

If it's any consolation, the damage is cosmetic and can be repaired like new.

Very painfull indeed. Hopfully the poor dog isn't now at the pound.

We still have the dog. He's too dang cute and cudley to get rid of. We did however purchase a small kennel to keep in the cabin in the future when we do need to leave him in there.

I think we all feel pain for you. Like ShanMan, my jaw hit the floor seeing those pictures.

Small kennel sounds like a good idea.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of dog does this type of damage? Is it still a puppy?

Woggy, what a weekend! Wow, let's hope better times are coming! Those pictures of the cabin are incredible! You must have died when you got back and saw that!! Wow!

As an aside, we take our dog everyplace we go on the boat, and she is the center of attraction at our marina and when we travel overnight, the other boatowners wherever we are staying absolutely love our pooch!

I do however have a couple of Rules about the dog while on board:
1) While underway she wears the Doggie lifejacket(Ruffwear-Excellent)

2) We leash her to the cockpit table leg while we are away from the boat at a dock (like for dinner or sightseeing) leaving just enough room for her to move about from there to the transom door, but not enough to either jump off the boat or get to the helm.

3) I Never, Never let her in the Cabin. While we are sleeping on the boat, she stays in the cockpit, and we put up the Camper Canvas.

Also, by doing this, the dog is a very visible deterrent to thieves or troublemakers, and while we are away our dockmates can keep an eye on her for us. We always make sure that someone who will be around has our cell phone #.

We boat with 2 dogs. The culprit (mutt) and our chocolate lab. The lab is more of a boater than I am and would never do such a horrific thing. We always put life jackets on both of them and keep them on a leash while underway because the Lab especially, will and has jumped overboad while underway. We tried tieing them in the cockpit while at the dock but the problem with 2 dogs is they have a tendancy to get tangled.

So far the estimates to repair the damage are going to start at $500 and probably will go as high as $1,000.

The biggest problem I am having in doing the repairs is taking apart the cabinetry in both the mid cabin and around the stairs so that the upholstery can be tucked back in behind it.

Do you guys ever get concerned with the doggies toenails puncturing the vynal seats? Our black lab is a great dog and we used to take her on our old boat all the time since the cushions were beat up anyway. We now have a 2006 Vista...brand spankin new. I would love to bring her out, but I'm nervous that 65 lbs of dog might puncture the upholstry on deck?

I make sure my boxer has nice rounded nails. I either get them grinded by a groomer or you go for a nice long run on concrete. I was told its not a big problem like you think it will be, but it still worries me alittle. I had a girl in stiletto heels step on my sundeck 2 weeks ago and about flew from the bow to tackle her. No holes?????????

Ditto, Txjole, about the nails part....As far as tackling a girl in Stiletto Heels on the bow of my boat, I am afraid to say that I have not had the pleasure, but it sounds like fun!

We just make sure our dogs nails are trimmed and have never had a problem with the vinyl. It's a lot more durable than you might think. Doesn't stand up to well to chewing though.
