Hi, new to this forum and I have NO mechanical skills.

Issue 1: I do not trust my depth finder. Yes I understand its function and am able to program it to the setting I desire. It gives me "numbers" but I do not trust them. ie it says I am in 25 feet of water and I know I am in 5-8 feet of water. Is there a reset or other quick fix before I haul this to the mechanic?

Issue 2: My speedometer is not working. No clue, any help?

Thanks.

Ryan

U may chk to make sure bilge is clear of debris that could interfere with transducer...other than that there's not much to check. As far as speed...you may have clog in pitot tube....its pressure driven and small hole on leading edge of drive is the water pichup.....may probe with small wire or remove tube from speedometer and blow in it.

regarding speedo...also check under your dash. There should be a plastic tube (hose) connected to the back of the speedometer. If this has become disconnected, you won't send any water pressure to the speedometer, thus, no reading...Conversely, if it's disconnected, you should get a light stream of water out of it while you're travelling in the water.

Like the other poster said, there is a plastic "bracket" that hangs below your hull, back by your outdrive. This is where the business end of the speedometer is. Check that it's not clogged with debris.

What model is your depth finder? Faria?

I do have a Faria depth alarm and throws some weird numbers at me to. I have ,so I have thought reprogrammed it to the keel depth, deep water alarm and shallow water alarm but still doesn'tmake sense of the output. I am calling Faria tomorrow to see if maybe I am missing something. I believe all old input has to be cleared out but??? New instrument to me also. If I find anything out in regard to what I am doing wrong, I will post.

The gage could be defective. I had one go bad on me for no reason. If I recall, it would constantly alarm out and it couldn't be reset after a few months it crapped out all together. Cost about eighty dollars to replace.

Speedo rectified, thanks for the tips. Used the piece of wire to unclog and then blew into the small hole. Recommended tool to keep on the boat: 1 x bobby pin.

As for the depth finder, still a hit and miss. Bilge is clear, everything looks good. I will give it a try again, should it fail to gain my confidence, new part it is.

Thanks to you all.
