Ok, has anyone ever tried to use a portable a/c unit (not marine use type) and just duct it into the cabin? Those wheel around units are very cheap comparatively speaking, I'm thinking there is a drawback, just don't see it yet.

Thoughts?

Nope. But I used to have a Cruisair over the hatch A/C that I bought on craigslist for cheap to use on my old Vista 258 and LOVED it.

Sounds like the perfect plan if you're okay with how it sits in the boat. They're all over craigslist in the $150-$200 range for 8-10k BTU units.

They are great! although I don't use one on the boat, I have used one at home when hurricane season knocks out the lights and It cools my bedroom to where it feels like an icebox.

My friend did that, he just let the water drain into a bucket and emtyed it out every few hours.

Exactly what I did and it worked great, the best part is I ran the generator on the opposite side of my house and my room didn't get much noise thanks to those long extension cords.

That's what I was thinking. Where does the warm air go? I was thinking I'd have to either vent that out the back of the camper canvas, or vent it through some home made ducting. Anyone know how many Amps they draw?

The warm air has to go somewhere that's not the place you're trying to cool. I'd make something that hooked up to a porthole or something

I'm thinking of putting the unit by the driver, crating ducts to the cabin, and duct exhaust out the side of the camper canvas.
