Everyone has their own process of caring for their boat, but thought of posting mine as I was putting mine up this morning. My routine. Run on muffs about ten mins Carpet hangs to dry Check all fluids / motor and drive Rinse and wipe down exterior Wipe down interior and all stainless 3m vinyl treatment on all vinyl Hang all wet lines to dry Wipe out any water in floor storage Open all compartments Prop open with life jackets Lower drive and turn off bttry switch Remove n dry rubber swim mat and replace All tie downs loosened/ plug out / bow up When all dry i store carpet and lines and cover goes on and ready to go next time I obviously trailer..and keep boat inside storage. |

Wow I am impressed, my boat sits on a mooring so it's never clean really. Row out in dinghy. Get on boat take off covers, clean off bird crap if needed. Go out and take a nice ride. Come back and into dock, hose off salt etc. Put on covers, row back. Boat really gets washed/waxed not till end of season. When you use a boat this way it doesn't pay to buy new....I do clean the seats and deck etc but that's about all I can do out there. The mechanical maintenance, it all gets done in the fall and spring. I might fix a few things over the summer with it on the mooring (I've changed the motor oil, replaced a thermostat, etc little stuff).... |

That is a pretty impressive list. I trailer and store inside as well. Here is my rough breakdown: 1. Pull the boat out. 2. Wipe down exterior. River crud needs to come off ASAP or it will stain hull yellow. 3. Trailer to storage unit. 4. Lower the wake tower. 5. Remove cooler, towel bags, food stuffs, etc. 6. (Optional) If river crud was exceptionally bad, I will hose the boat off before putting in the storage unit. For example, last weekend trailer was covered in May flies. I had to hose them off so they didn't stink up my storage unit. This step doesn't normally happen as I can normally get it pretty good with just the wipe down at the marina. 7. Back trailer/boat in to stall. 8. Remove wet items such as life jackets, tubes, ropes, and lay across swim platform. 9. Lock up storage unit. 10. (Optional) Maybe have a beer with buddy who uses my storage unit if we happen to be putting the boats away at the same time. |

1. Place on trailer 2. Remove from water 3. Cover (optional at this time), opening up anything that will stay open and spray with some Lysol. 4. Take home (Do step 3 if skipped earlier) 5. Stare out widow until I get the opportunity to repeat all of the above steps. Storing the boat at home, I can do the heavy cleaning on a nice day after work. About once per month it gets: 1. Run on the muffs up to temp, then shut down 2. Wipe down all surfaces with 303 or equivilent, Clean windows, Vacuum carpet, wash exterior 3. Inspect covers (waterproof every year) 4. Wax if needed (about 2x per season). |

Here's some efficiency I've developed over the years. When we go to the lake we usually have friends meet us there, this means that after the day is over the wife and I are alone unpacking when we get home no one is there to help. So we get everyone to help with that stuff while we are in the tie down area at the boat ramp.
My bed has a cover to keep all this stuff from blowing out on the way home. This makes it super easy when we get home cause we just pull stuff out of the truck rather having to climb all over the boat to get everything out. once we get home we don't need to get into the boat unless we're putting the covers on right away but unless it's going to rain we wait until at least a day later. unfortunately I store outside for now. This thread has given me another idea though. I need to make wiping out the interior a part of the tie down process because I usually end up doing that the morning we are heading out. |

pull boat to in and out dock. Turn off key. turn off battery switch. Hang life jackets and towels from bimini. Give rest of the beer to the forklift drivers. get in car and drive home. |

I wish in and out was an option here...can you access your boat once put up for detailing? I may be anal but got into habit of wiping down all vinyl with 3m years ago. Any spills come right up and no staining. I also buy those haniwipes for stainless at Kroger and it takes the bugs and water spots right off. My boat is fresh water only....I learned from the master of boat care....the dad of an old girl friend used to take us fishing at the bay..after using the entire boat got a suds bath and wiped down...then all stainless got coated with petroleum jelly....motor was an OB that got suds and flush then wiped and covered....he had boat slung in a slip and had long brushes to wash hull. Boat was like new forever. I do enjoy the clean up...I may have a touch of ocd but can do my routine in little over 2.5 beers....to be honest I also tie all lines in a series of slip nots and stow by length .. shortest to longest |
