My Clarion head unit has been acting flaky for a while. I'm considering getting a new unit (not necessarily a Clarion, but maybe). I'm considering getting something that plays DVDs so I can tie that into the tv and eliminate the DVD player that I've got wired in now. I know that I'm going to have switch my remotes at the helm and on the swim platform (even if I stay with Clarion). My question is, will I be able to wire the new remotes to the existing wiring, or am I going to have to fish new wire for the new remotes? If I stick with Clarion, will it make it any easier? |

22" LED Flatsceens with built in DVD that are 12v are around $220 on amazon and only draw around 30-40w. For the price of a $600 DVD radio you can get a nice sony marine unit for $120, two remotes, and a new TV and still be under the price of just that DVD radio. Clarion switched their marine remotes, and the wires that feed it. They do have the first marine radio with bluetooth though. Very nice!!! http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020M502/Cl ... ml?tp=1721 |

I just picked up a 22" Jensen in the offseason for $250. It's nice. I have a 12v portable DVD player hard wired into the fuse block. It's serviceable, but it's not as "clean" as I'd like it to be. I was thinking that the single head unit would be the way to go, but you're right, the cost of the single units is ridiculous. You can get one on eBay for $400+, but when you consider that new remotes are another couple hundy and that you can get a stand alone unit for a $100 plus, it doesn't make much sense. Ideally, I'd like something that can play a bunch of different digital video formats (DIVX, etc) from a USB port. I'd love to do that without switching out the head unit, but it's on the fritz, so I thought it made sense. I just don't hate the idea of fishing new wires. My forearms and hands are scratched up enough for the season....and it's 100 degrees in Ohio. |

I just installed a Fusion IP700 (Ipod only, no DVD) and can say I'm very happy after pairing it with the Polk DB651 speakers. After putting a cheap router in, I can control the radio from my iTouch, within range of the router. Just be careful, if you expect your NEMA2000 device to control it, it probably wont. I bought the Simard NSS-7, thinking it would control it since it works with the Sonic Hub (re-branded Fusion). I was wrong, it doesn't. Anyway, the Fusion radio has been great. |
