Since water temps have been higher than usual lately we've got a lot more jellyfish in the waters around the Chesapeake. Most seasons we plan our trips based on how the water temps creep up, start out with southern destinations and work our way north. But this year we're seeing jellies a lot farther north than usual.

We picked one up two years ago but have not yet used it. We rafted up with some friends this weekend and they deployed theirs. What a nice change. No jellies inside the net, at all. We spread the net behind the boats, with our ladders both our ladders going into it. This made for a perfect entry/exit for the kids.

The net does get discolored from the Bay silt but dries out quickly and doesn't get as nasty as you'd expect. Ball it up when out and then hose off the bunch when back at the marina.

So instead of crossing those destinations off our list we'll be making use of our Nettle Net more often.

For us fresh water boaters, mind posting a few pictures of what you are talking about.

Plenty of pix and info on the company's website: http://www.nojellyfish.com/

We bought the 12' size, and that's what our friends had out on their boat over the weekend. Big enough for a couple of adults and 3 kids.

Things like this make me love the Great Lakes even more. Might have a short season but I worry about no creatures in the water.

Looks like a pretty cool thing. I'm sure it's not fun swimming with those nasty things.

i wish they had a thing for crabs because my feet are always getting pinched, it makes me want to reach down and grab it to steam it up.

Oh the nettles...know them well. We had a nettle pool when we had the sail boat out of rock hall. Those little buggers hurt!

Looks like a must in the salt....very glad not to have to worry about that in the lakes.....we spend so much time swimming and water wrestling I would be spending half a day deploying and retrieving that device. If we had jellyfish I would do it though.....seems everything in the salt bites or stings. We just watch for gators and snakes......hmmmmm....guess jellyfish ain't so bad

+1 on the Great Lakes being free of creatures in the water LOL! This is my cousin in Biscayne bay in Miami walking on water to get into the boat after I scream shark! and start up with the Jaws music
