The guy I'm buying my boat from was financed by them when he purchased the Sundowner in 2004 from a Four Winns dealer. He payed off the loan but they're talking about weeks until they even mail the title. I'm dying over here.

I am in the Car biz, so I am sure it is the same as with a car loan. Some banks are paperless, and will not even generate a title until the loan is paid off, which they will wait for every last day possible. Usually, they will not even start the process of a title until 10 business days for checks to clear.

Usual time frame for banks we deal with on cars is about 3-4 weeks......CHASE is the worst!

Do you need the actual title to take delivery? Keep your bill of sale with you and you should be all set. Just make sure you have your own insurance. You will be running on his hull numbers, but if you get pulled over, you have the documentation you need with BOS.

That would be the equivalent of having to wait for the Warranty Deed to come back filed and recorded on a residential transaction (4 to 6 weeks). As long as you have proof he paid the loan off (certified funds and proof of receipt by BOW), then that boat should be yours to enjoy. The seller, afterall, received the funds from you to do this (or most of it).

The seller paid off on his own, didn't feel comfortable taking $$ from me until he could give me the title/boat at the same time. He put it in a storage unit until he gets the title.

He would give the boat to me now, and we write up a contract saying he owes me the title... but idk. I'm okay with waiting but when we started this process the bank told us days... liars.

Strange. Doesn't the bank own the title and don't they control when you take possession and not the seller? If you want it bad enough, consult an attorney because this isn't normal IMO. I know when I bought my Carver, I wanted the owner off the boat the next day and he had a loan on it. :D

This one's starting to smell fishy :|

I don't understand how it's fishy, he paid the boat off when I agreed to buy it, in 30 days of doing so he gets the title. Once he has the title I pay for boat and bring it home. We're just waiting to do the transaction when he can officially give me the boat as mine, and the wait sucks.

Yes...my boat is financed with same bank and they're legit. Nothing fishy sounding to me and I deal with fishy everyday. Usually u go to a branch and pay agreed price and sign title transfer along with seller. Bank keeps what is owed and rest goes to seller unless he's upside down.

The way he is doing it ensures u get title in hand along with boat. Being he is paying off boat prior to transaction u r better off waiting. Otherwise u have no guarantee from bank the loan is paid off and title cleared. Patience!!!

Bill of sale means u win in civil suit against him if things go bad....but collecting is different story....bad thing is bank of west has no branches anywhere I know of.

If u did bill of sale, his chk bounces to lien holder and u paid him....then u bought boat with lien on it.

I too am in the car business and I also have had. Boat financed with them. The bank will usually not release the title until 10-14 days after they receive the check to make sure it clears. I'm sure the guy is legit nd maybe they are just slow to process. It seems like it was at least two weeks before I got mine after payoff.

My short experience.... I paid off my boat one month ago today. I just got a letter dated two weeks ago stating my title would be sent soon.

Bought our boat on a trade in, loan paid off. We got a temporary title and the boat and took the boat home same day. Official title came about 11 days later. Meanwhile we were able to legally enjoy our boat.

yeah, but that was from a dealer with a title department i am sure...squeeky wheel theory applies here....keep calling Bank of West (couple times a day and ask for same person)....they will get it done to shut you up.

It took over 3 months to get my paperwork from Villiage... and that was calling every week. Finally, someone from FW called to give me a "satisfaction survey". I got the title less than a week later. And FW has called about once a year just to see I am still satisfied.
