It's funny, I just starting looking at these early 90s cruisers out of curiousity.

The one you posted seems a bit high on price.

Here a few that are a lot less:

If it's pure square footage that you're looking for at low price to live on at a marina... that will do the job. Otherwise to use as an active cruiser, it's old and outdated. You can only pilot it wearing a linen suit and it's fuel consumption at cruise is 35+gph. All the little odds and ends that wear out and break will be a chore to find without having to upgrade everything that wears out with new. Big $$ compared to something just 10 years newer.

With a big boat, fuel consuption is what it is.

Based on the data avaialable from Four Winns the 315 with gas V8s will burn 25-30 GPH at a cruise speed of around 30-35 MPH.

So, it is getting better than 1 MPG. Honestly that isn't that bad. If you can find a 315 with diesels that would be really cool. Those can get over 2 MPG and still do 40 MPH.

Not sure what Rick's issue is with boats from the late 80s and 90s. I've seen a lot worse than Four Winns.

If I was buying a boat to entertain... using a 1991 315 vista is like tryin to impress your mates with a 1991 cadillac. Sure it has the room and the big engine but you're not foolin anyone when a early 2000's 18ft bowrider costs more.

That being said... if you don't care about looks, style, keeping up with trends and just want a bunch of room for you and the kids that goes decently fast.. a vintage Vista is freaking perfect and dirt cheap.

I imagine that if you were to dump a grand or 5 in updating the upholstery fabrics inside and out with modern colors, paint the outside solid white and drop the 3 tone custom van look, swapped out the interior laminated surfaces for something that looks less like a mobile home, and knocked off the radar tower and have one installed from a modern vista facing the correct direction you'd have something impressive

Dude, my Grandma's 1991 Cadillac Sedan Deville was so cool. I wish I could have had that car. It even had the Landau top. Man if I could have that car now, all my friends would think I was loaded.

That one from Milwaukee got me thinking about something...
How cool would that be to buy with the idea to pilot it from the Great Lakes then out to the Atlantic, around Florida, then here to South Texas! What a trip! Would need the time and money, though. Neither of which I have.

Damn! Now I just made myself sad....

money? you would need 20k for gas LOL

That's a trip you do with diesel, or a sail boat.

If I had the time it would be fun. If I had the money it would be fun.
I have neither, so I'm just going to stick with my H180 and our planned fishing trip down to the coast.

I agree with the value for the buck, the boat does seem a little over priced. Don't let the money burn a hole in your pocket. Look at comparables and don't fall in love with anything, be rational and decide what is important to you, forget the money long enough to make a rational descision, if you prefer an older bigger boat that may need more TLC and you are willing to provide it, then it doesn't matter if everyone is on board. the key is you are happy with your final decision. I have a built 40+ year old car that burns 9 gallons/mile and I don't care if people think it's the right choice, it's my choice.
