Dang....not having the best luck on vacation. Took the boat to the ramp to put it in. First couple attempts to start seemed like a dead starter...just a click turning the key. Then it finally starting cranking normally but it wasn't going to start. I cranked on it for about 15 mins with no luck. Then nothing....all electrical dead. I opened the engine compartment and started looking around. On the positive battery post I saw blackend plastic and what looked like the results of a short. I was able to get electrical power again after resetting the breaker switch on the top of the engine which allowed me to get my outdrive back up. Took it to a local shop and he confirmed I have a short...somewhere...but he was 2-3 weeks out on boat repairs. On the plus side we resort has a waterpark and a beach. At least the kids will be happy whilst I drink beers at the cabin look at my driveway ornament. |

Man, that sucks....boats always seem to go SNAFU at the ramp. I'm no electrician (shoot, I'm luck to get lightbulbs right), but I would become friends with a meter and start systemetically checking everything while you are waiting for your mechanic to get her in. Starting with small things, lights, stereo, horn, etc. Then moving to engine electrics....just my 2 cents... |

My F-I-L has bough 2 new boats and both of them on the ramp would not start. Brand new first launch, no ryme or reason. Even my boat on the ramp with him the same thing, I even started mine on muffs in the yard before we left. Some times the gremlins are out to get you. |

Yeah, Murphy's law. Boat has been running great every weekend so far this summer. Heck, after 1 min of cranking I knew something was wrong...she has always started just fine. It was 95 degrees here today and I just couldn't bring myself to snake around the engine compartment trying to identify something I wouldn't know what looked like in the first place. I was going to but it just cranked and cranked so my fear is my starter is bad so id'ing a short somewhere would only get me back to a start that would just crank but not fire the engine up. |
