I just pulled my 1990 200 Horizon out, been in since April 13th. Does anyone have a trick to getting the plug out? It seems to be stuck in. |

Drain Plug ?? Spray with liquid wrench, wd-40 or penetrating oil and let it sit. If you can spray some from the inside that would be good as well. You can try tapping on the end of the plug with a hammer a few time, just don't hit it too hard or you will really trash the threads. This will often help. Use a wrench so you don't strip the plughead. If there are no gas fumes, you can also heat the drain plug up a bit with a torch. Clean the plug and hole really good, so it should not happen again. |

Thanks for the reply, The previous owner had to put it in with an impact. I tried for 3 hrs last night to get it out and couldn't. |

Can you use a pipe cheater to increase leverage? My boat sits in salt water 6 months out of the year and I have never had trouble getting it out. If you really can't budge it, you found remove the whole fitting with the plug and install a new one. Just make shelter to seal up any raw wood you see and seal the screw holes with Life Caulk or 3M 4200. |

I know the plug/ socket are bronze ( or rather I hope so, not brass!) and a taper fit, but I always put some waterproof grease on the threads. Open ended spanners ( i.e. wrenches !) do tend to round off the edges. The plug on mine is is filed off 12 mm rather than 1/2" / 12.7 mm |

I use my old standby, OMC triple guard grease on anything in salt water and it always comes right out. There is no need to get it that tight anyway.... |

I agree with Lou, I have had mine in and out 10 times since we bought the boat last Oct. I hand tighten it, then give a light 1/4 more turn with an adjustable wrench. Can't believe he used an impact wrench on it ( DA ). |

Another reason to only finger tighten your plug, especially if you don't leave boat in water overnight(s). Have never used a wrench on mine, never had a problem. Spoken with several who have done the same forever. No problems. |

I put it in hand tight and I turn it just a little more with a wrench, I thought I was doing something wrong when I read this good lord an impact wrench! WTH. Thanks for your comment I know I was doing it just fine. |
