So I take out a coworker and his wife on my boat for a quick ride around the bay, he had purchased a brand new 18 foot center console with a 90 hp no more than two or three months ago. So I am whipping along with the bimini down and my exhaust open hitting around 45 or so, it was pretty calm. I get to elliott key in biscayne bay and we stop to have lunch and a cold beverage, the ladies move to the swim platform and start talking, after a while his wife starts telling her husband why he didn't buy a boat like mine. LOL! she was ripping into him that she didn't like the boat they have because it didn't have any room in the front or swim platform to hangout on and that she didn't fish on it so it was useless and a bad purchase. Three days later after the trade-in he shows up to my house with a brand new 2012 Stingray 210LR Bowrider with the 4.3. We took the boats out recently and my 220 runs circles around it, the boat doesn't want to plane to save it's life with 4 people on the back and I don't think that is normal. He told me he was going to change the prop because he was really disgusted with the the performance of the boat. He broke the engine in and changed the oil like it said but the boat to me just runs like a cow. Wondering if he got a lemon. Any insight would be appreciated. |

The Stingray 210LR with the 4.3GXi is a 60mph boat. With the factory prop. 57.4ish to be exact if you want to get in the details according to boat test. Also, there is no such thing as a 210LR in 2012. The last that model was made is 2007 |

I guess he hasn't broken it in properly because the boat is not posting anything near 57 mph. Not sure how many hours are on it but he said it was broken in already. Going out this Saturday with him again I will tell him what you guys said maybe he should just leave the prop alone and put more hours on it before he starts firewalling the throttle. I tried to post a pic but it keeps telling me that it has too much resolution or it's too big. |

![]() Going to tell my friend what you said, hopefully he leaves the setup alone and figures out what is going on with the lack of performance. |

That looks like 215LR.... Which is a deck boat and have different Hull fro other Stingray.... I think 4.3 is not enough for the boat and showed..... That would be my take... |

Ohhhh it's the deck boat not the model he initially said. OHHHHH! Yeah that's not a speed hull. According to stingray with a full tank of gas and 1000lb of weight (5-6 ppl plus gear) it will only top out at 42mph. The 4.3 was the WRONG motor for that boat. The 5.0GXi was an option and should have been purchased with it, but even with the 5.0GXi it would only do 45.. That boat is a pig. Should have done some research. Even the 2004 Monterey 228 cuddy I tested with leaking manifolds (5.0GXi) GPS'd 48mph with 4 full size adult men on it. That's a small lake boat, 100% the wrong boat for Biscayne bay. |

What is the all in weight of that boat? My old '88 H-200 has the 4.3 with 4bbl carb and the all in weight is about 3000 lbs. The most I could get is probably 42 if that, I'm sure that age and coats of bottom paint slow it down. In the FW specs page for the older 200s with the 4.3 thats what they listed, and that would be under ideal conditions, not with an old bottom painted boat. If the prop is letting it reach max rpm and it's still slow, it could be too much boat for the motor. |

Stingray is famous for making the fastest boats of their size range, but not that particular model. It's a mini deck boat designed for space and comfort in a tiny package. Not a speed boat design like their other 98%. The Stingray 195 cuddy I was looking at is virtually the same size/length/weight. With the same engine (4.3 gxi) it does 59mph. With 1000lb weight it still breaks 52mph. 10mph faster fully loaded due to it's hull design. It's almost 10mph faster then all other boats in it's class with v8's.. but don't ride it in rough waters!!!! |
