Post subject:  Adding Radar to a Raymarine C80

I'm thinking about adding a radar to my Raymarine C80.

I notice that some of the new digital radars such as the RD418D are not compatible with "older" C series, which I assume means my 2006 C80.

Has anyone fitted other radars to the C80 and are there any things to watch out for ?

Or, given the age of the C80, I wonder if I should bite the bullet and buy a new MFD. Any recommendations as to what other units would cover up the old cut-out from the C80 well ?

You are at the same point that I am with the c80.

Unless you can find a decent used dome, I would find it had to put more money into this obsolete series of devices. Garmin has a very nice series of devices but have not looked into how they would fit into the dash. The issue is most of the newer raymarine units are wide screen but the c80 is a 4:3 screen.

Have you joined the raymarine forum? That seems to be a good resource for c80 questions as well.

Let us know what you decide if you upgrade.

I have the C-80 with radar and auto pilot as installed when new from the dealer (works wonderfully).
My suggestion, checkout E-Bay for used radar compatible with C-80 and/or contact Raymarine.

Good luck!

There is a dome on cincinnati craigslist for around 500. I don't have a need for one and don't know it's value but it looked clean.

I just pulled the C80, DSM300, Radar and SR50 weather module from my 2008 V338. Everything worked fine except for my transducer, which died. I will be putting the components up for sale. PM me if you are interested.
