Its time for an upgrade.

Its been 14 years since i last shopped for a GPS unit, my current it s Garmin GPSMap 180. Looking for advice as to whats out there. What do you have on your 268 Vista? Why did you go with brand X? Etc...

Thanks guys.

I had a V258. Never seen up front a V268.

I have tried Lowrance & Raymarine and Garmin to me is a lot user friendly and better tech support.

I used a Garmin 740 with a fuel flow senor. That gave me GPH & MPG. Also, I added radar. I did have a seperate fishfinder.

Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 touch. Also got a nifty little engine interface that ties into the gauges and converts that to NMEA2000 data to give the HDS engine data. Also added the 3d structure scan and a fuel flow meter. All I need is in one unit. Very nice.

I'm using a Simrad NSS7 with Garmin NEMA2000 fuel flow sensors. One thing I've come to appreciate is that it has both a touch screen and physical knobs/buttons. In 6' waves, using a touch screen only device would be all but impossible - and that's likely when you need the information the most. It also had independent fuel management and display abilities (i have twins) which the Raymarine did not at the time. It also has video inputs that I plan on running to a backup camera so I can actually see the port corner of my swim plaform.

I installed a Garmin 541s. I have the same dash as you and it mounted nicely just forward of the starboard cupholder.

KD that seems like a huge unit for the 268. How/where do you have it mounted?

Jeff that where i currently have my current Garmin mounted and it works well as being able to view it. My current GPSMAP180 has a 5.5" screen so id like to be the same size or larger, but dont want to cover up the gauges.

I removed the plexiglass chart cover and mounted it flush right there. It's not ideal while sitting down, but I plan on making a color matched custom piece of fiberglass as a wedge-type thing this summer to incline mount it. Even a nice woodgrain wedge to match the gauge bezel would look good.
