I'm not sure how accurate my model is - may be over-reading. I will test with a known depth this weekend. Anyone had experiences of poor accuracy?
[Have set to depth under the leg]

Mine reads a few feet lower then what it really is. First time I noticed it said 5ft, but when I jumped off the back of the boat it was more like 8ft deep.
I don't mind it like that. Helps keep me out of trouble.

You can adjust it. I have mine set so 0ft reads when there's .5-1ft between the fully lowered outdrive and bottom at idle. It's a 4ft offset so if you want to know real depth just +4.

yeah - when I jumped in last week it did seem to over read about 1m. Need to put some offset in.

Ours reads fairly true. May have previously been adjusted. :?:

I installed a Garmin 536s GPS plotter and depth sounder. The Garmin also can be adjusted to offset the correct distance from the position of the transducer and the lowest part of the boat. This gives me two independent calibrated depth sounders and I can do direct comparisons. The digital Faria depth sounder is accurate, but seems to show Unk (unknown) a lot of the time. I just normally turn it off because the Garmin plots water depth trends, holds the bottom much better, and has a more powerful transducer.

Im now a little confused, can a sounder with CHIRP technology have the transducer mounted inside the kayak, or does it have to go in the water?

Read the depth to someone and then have them jump in. If they get mad, it's inaccurate.

Mine doesn't take the keel into consideration, but there's an offset feature. I personally like it the way it is, since there's room for error still.

Also, anything over 5 MPH isn't really accurate.

I don't know that I'd like depending on that type of depth finder...I think the fishing ones are more accurate....better transducers…..the smaller Garmins fit the dash of the smaller boats just fine....
