What You’ll Need1. A smartphone capable of running the
Navionics Boating App.
2. The
Navionics Boating App.
3. A phone mount for your boat. I use the
Ram Mount Composite Twist Lock Suction Cup Mount with Universal X-Grip Cellphone Holder for my iPhone 6.
Last year, I dinged my stainless prop in what I thought was 10' of water. My depth finder beeped after the damage was already done. Since then, I've been using the Navionics app. It works great, but it is a pain to use with the phone sliding around on the dash. The mount fixes that problem. 90% of my boating is done in a reservoir with constantly changing levels. This app has saved me numerous times, and costs pennies on the dollar compared to a traditional chartplotter.
My 2006 Horizon has a power outlet in the cubby next to the helm, so I have a USB charger in there to keep the phone charged. I run a cord up to the phone and it stays charged all day long.
