Who has one? Which one do you have and why? I saw a Uniden in the Cabala's catalog for $150. I know you can get them cheaper, but it came with a case, Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries etc. |

Portable or fixed? I have both on my boat. My portable is a 4 year old Uniden. It works great, the newer models are much more compact. |

I was considering a portable. All of my boating is on inland lakes and a portable won't require wiring/installation. |

I have a SeaFit unit (Uniden branded for BoatUS). LiIon battery. Works great. The boat also has a fixed unit by Standard Horizon that is DC. It's attached to the gps via the NMEA0183 bus so position data is sent inase of an emergency. |

Other than online or at an overpriced marina, where can you get these things? It doesn't appear Best Buy or any of the "box" stores carry them. ![]() |

Standard Horizon handheld. Incredible build quality, and usually found on ebay for around $100. |

We do most of our boating on inland lakes, but rent a house a once or twice a summer on the waters that connect to Lake Michigan. I bought a used handheld (Standard Horizon) off of eBay for around $40. It's perfect for the limit use it gets but comes in very helpful in getting weather information and hailing marina when coming into the gas dock. |
