I picked up a new GPS/Fishfinder yesterday to replace my failing Lowrance one. I ended up with the Eagle FishElite 642c iGPS Fish Finder Combo, which Cabela's was having on sale for $350 and was by far the lowest priced color GPS Combo unit that I've found. I've got 60 days to check it out and return it, but I spent quite a bit of time with it in the store and it looks like 1000% improvement over what I had.

I didn't need a lot of the higher end features and this one will take map chips for extra detail, but just having water temp will be a huge plus for us.

I have also been looking for a GPS/Fishfinder. Boy there are alot out there and I don't need half of the stuff some of them come with. Please keep us updated on your new toy.

Got the same GPS for Christmas from the wife. After playing around will a bunch of the settings (its not on the boat yet) it seems to really have a bunch of neat features. It definitely seems to have a lot of bang for the buck. You can configure engine gauges, multiple split screens, plan/estimate routes and distances, multiple waypoints, etc. Unsure whether I will upgrade the chip or not, will probably use it this spring and see how if I really need it. I'm not sure if I can bring myself to drill holes in the boat, might have to go for the shoot thru hull transducer.

I was finally able to use my new GPS/Fishfinder and thought I'd share a photo of the Split Screen view. I'm not cruising all that fast, but I had to take the picture and drive... If you look close at the map, you can see our path around the lake.

What size is the screen? Can you read it ok while driving? I was looking at the Garmin 400 and 500 series. They are just so pricey and was thinking of going with the 4" (400 series) to save a bit but worried about the screen size.

I have an Eagle Cuda and it's great value for money. Eagle stuff is actually made by Lowrance, but slightly lower specced in that it doesn't have all the things you dont need, yet still has all the good stuff you do need! Eagle is definately the leader for bangs per buck that I have found.

It has a 5" screen that has two lighting modes for day/night. I have it mounted on the port side, so it's further away, but I can read everything fine. For my needs, it's more than adequate and 1000 times better than what I previously had.

I picked up a humminbird 383c on salr at fleet farm. only one they had. it was around $250. neat machine. it hi a fish locator and gps. you can set waypoints and a bunch of other stuff, still have to play with it some more. the feature I really like is that I can hook the gps up to the dsc on my radio.
