Just bought a 1998 205 Sundowner and I can't seem to get the Depth finder to work. It is flashing (8). There are two buttons (set and mode) next to the display. Any tips on operating this thing? thanks

You already might know about this, but it answers your question about the buttons, not the "8" display. But looks like you can reset the depth finder by removing the positive battery connection.

If you go to the FW site, under customer service, past product information and under past owners manuals, this will bring you to a screen with all product years. Hopefully the links to the Four Winns site doesn't violate any rules.

Here is the link to your boat: Section B, page 7, H has the info on the depth finder

looks like the links changed when I submitted the post, follow the directions on the FW site and you can download the PDF.

Another thing to consider is that IF the boat is not in the water, you may get a strange, incorrect read on the display. Have you had it in the watter yet to see if it works?

You might need to clean the exterior (hull side) of the transducer. I've found a wet rag will do it, although if you search back posts you'll find cleaning agents others have used.
