So, I still have the flaky Faria depth gauge which "works" but doesn't show accurate depth. I think it may be the connectors connecting the transducer to the cable to the gauge. They are Deutsch DT Series Connectors that look like this (with only 2 wires, though):

2 questions:
Does anyone know if these have to be ordered online, or if somewhere like Radio Shack or a car parts store would carry them?
Can I just cut and splice the wires or does the cable length matter?

I have a garmin fish finder with transom mounted transducer also, but I'd love to have the Faria working....

If it's only 2 wires, you can use any water tight connectors. As in http://www.easy-motorcycle.com/wire-con ... shtgl782b5

I have never seen a connector that caused such an issue. If you are getting a reading at all I would tend to think the transducer is the culprit.

The only reason I suspect the connection is that I see what appears to be corrosion where the wire inserts into the connector.....

I'd much rather start with wiring than trying to pop out and replace a thru-hull transducer. Although I agree that the transducer is likely the issue.

If you are going to go through all that, check ALL of your connections. Mine on the last boat was a poor power/gnd connection, which was easily corrected.

You can buy replacement Deutsch DT Series Connectors at an electrical wholesaler or electronics place. I use them at work but can't remember where I bought my kit. I just use regular crimpers for the connectors. You might be able to pop the wires out of the connectors and clean them up.

Good suggestion on pulling/cleaning the connection. I wasn't familiar with the Deutsch DT connectors, but fortunately found this on youtube:

If the vehicle is older and you need to provide a more significant trickle charge, you'd want about 15 Watts of panel and some form of regulator. This gets expensive. It is probably cheaper to buy a small automotive charger and a timer and let it turn on for an hour a day (or even an hour a week if you get a more complex timer).
Or give the battery a charge prior to starting the vehicle once you return.
