Post subject:  chartplotter with water temp reading
Any suggestion on a chartplotter/gps/fishfinder that has a water temp reading as well. Hat flew off the while on the boat, and ended up diving into Lake Michigan to get it. The family jewels finally dropped back down about 24 hours later. Found out water was around 55 the hardway...

The Lowrance Elite 4 is a great little FF/GPS/CP for your size boat. Reasonable on cost and does what you need.

I purchased a garmin 441s off a fellow member. That does all that. 4" screen is small but it's just to keep me from getting lost. Pretty much they all do water temp it's very important for fishing. It's on the transducer. I used a Lowrance HDS7 gen2 on my buddies boat Saturday heavily cause I didn't know the waterways. That is a sweet bit of kit. I wish I could have one!

Thanks, may end up splurging a bit and going to the Elite-5 then. I may do some fishing afterall after watching what the boats were bringing in this past weekend at St. Joe, MI.

Sell it to you for short money. One year old, needed one that would output NMEA0183 & it would not talk to my Garmin 740.

With transducer. $200.00 plus shipping.

Personally, I like Garmin better!

Having used both garmin and lowrance...

Garmin is easier to use on the water. Using the HDS7 you need someone to steer the boat while you play with the GPS. Also, hacked maps for the Garmin are everywhere. Lowrance takes 3rd party maps to get similar features (like Navionics Platinum+) to equal Bluechart G2 Vision. It's very hard to get the Lowrance maps because they are very unit specific. Garmin maps are pretty much system wide generic.

I system updated my 441s to the latest firmware and hacked the latest G2 Vision map for my area and the latest base map. Very simple to do.
