I bought a 16' roll of LED strip lights with 3M adhesive on them to light up the interior of our boat. The two courtesy lights were just not giving us enough light. I cut the length of lights in half and installed 8' on each side of the cockpit. I put them on the fiberglass, under the lower panel that keeps things on the shelf. I was going to install them on the bottom of the panel for indirect lighting but decided that if I wanted to remove the panel it would be more difficult to do so.
This is the kit I bought.

There is a sensor on the wiring harness that has to be visible to the remote. I used the courtesy light power in the front of the engine bay to power the LED lights, so a good place to put the remote sensor was right behind the plastic lens for the stock courtesy light. I drilled a hole through the stock light, stuck the sensor in it and used RTV to hold it in place.
Lots of soldering and shrink booting to get it all to my satisfaction. If anyone wants detailed photos I can provide those next time I uncover the boat.
If you have the tools and everything needed to do the job it is a cheap mod to set your boat apart from the rest.
