Just wanted to add a reminder for those new to boat projects to use marine grade wiring rated to handle the load (yeah not much load with LEDs), fused appropriately at the power source to protect the wiring, and by all means try to avoid installation of anything not ignition protected into the engine compartment (even although it'd be cool to show off that nice shiny engine  ).

Having said that, some of these LED installs look way cool! I do a fair amount of boating at night, and it gets very dark where I'm at with many rocks and shallows. As a consequence I am very sensitive to anything that disrupts my night vision. The red leds TxJole2 has appeal to me, and that type of coloring and/or dimming would likely be good for others in similar situations. As I recall, there's an old thread around here somewhere with some detail on his very nice install which I believe has an LED illuminating each and every cup holder ( a high priority indeed).

Here is the link to the kit I got on ebay. I bought an additional 10ft strand and cut it in half to make two 15ft'ers. That was just enough to run them from under the dash and down the length of both sides on my 1999 200 Horizon. The 6ft extention was just enough to make the jump across the engine compartment. The lights are mounted all the way up inside the gunnel and are completely hidden. Hopfully the 3M tape will be strong enough to keep them up. This was a winter project so it hasn't been on the water yet. BTW it only has 15 functions not 18 as I stated before.

I finally got the darn things ordered. I settled on 8 of the blue 9.5 flex lights from oznium.com. I'll post pic's when I get done with the install.

Impulse, what lighting did you end up going with? Link? and txjole, what lighting did you use? Do you have some under the swim platform as well? Link?

I ended up using oznium (http://www.oznium.com) as recommended by several on this board. My only complaint about the led's is that the double stick tape they provided didn't work well in some areas, but I don't think Steve (aguyindallas) had any problems with it. I just ended up drilling a few small holes and using zipties in the locations that wouldn't hold. They were in places that can't be seen anyway. They were quick about getting their product to me though. Got a shipping confirmation within an hour or two of ordering and they got to me in just a couple of days. I have one led strip that 3 of the led's arn't working so I'll prolly ask for a replacement. We both used the flexable 9.5" led strips. I didn't put any under my swim platform.

So how did you arrange the 8 strips of LEDs? 2 under each dash and 2 in each side bay? If so, were they arranged lengths ways or side by side.

Thinking of doing something similar and wanted to get an idea of what I'll need. Would it be easier to get the 19" strips instead of so many 9.5" strips?

89 to keep things simple I just ordered all 9.5 strips. I put 2 in the bow area (1 each side), 1 each side in the helm area, and I have 2 cubbie areas on each side in the rear so I used 1 in each cubbie area for a total of 8 strips. Really the hardest part was running the main wire around the whole boat. I use a 50foot 16ga indoor/outdoor 2 conductor wire. I didn't have any wire left over. A fish tape is key for this!

I just received an order of LEDs from oznium as well - a mix of pre-wired 5mm LEDs in red and blue , and pre-wired Superflux 4-chip LEDs in red and white.

I connected them up to get a feel for the difference and to ensure that I received no bad ones, and all are good. The oznium website indicates that the superflux are much brighter than the 5mm leds, but to my eye the 5mm LEDs appear to be much more directional, almost like a spot light, while the Superflux spread light in all directions, even more so than an incandescent flood light. Hope these observations help others, I'm going back to buy more.

Showing the additional switch that was installed to match factory setup for controlling my led's only. It's the one all the way to the right.

I was searching the Ozium sight and came across these. Anyone tried them? Thoughts?

They are a heck of a lot cheaper than other underwater LED's and I was curious if you get what you pay for here.

So which ones are you going to buy more of, the LEDs or the superflux?

Colored Superflux for lighting storage areas, like glove box, and glove box cooler, as well as providing a 'glow' in empty cup holders, and 5mm leds for the bottom up - make the bottle in the cup holder glow - thing. I believe the 5mm are the ones to use for lighting plexy rods or rings as well, but I don't have any of these planned in my project.
Planning a master switch for the cup holder leds in case they become overly attractive to bugs. I'm also planning on using superflux in white to light up the bow storage areas, and enhance existing courtesy lights - FW provided one courtesy light on my 200. :? Might even change over the bulb to led on that existing courtesy light. I don't use the 30 qt cooler much, but I may add some blue leds on quick connects into the cooler to facilitate the selection of preferred beverage when I do use it. Not very ambitious plans, but then the overall cost should end up around $50 or less.
