I was going to replace the pilot tube pickup this week cause ti was broke off. The tube comming down from the top of the transom has 3 wires in it, it is not hollow. So that tells me that I dont have the pressure gauge, but what do I have? I have never seen this before and where do I get the parts for it. The interwebs arn't exactly working good for the search.

Most Four Winns had a paddle wheel speedometer pickup, not a pressure type. It Electronically counts rotations/speed of a little 1" paddle wheel at the transom. Has the advantage of working at low speed, and being relatively weed-free.

Sorry, but I'm not sure where to get a replacement, other than Four Winns dealer.

Thats what I was kinda thinking, called the dealer and they said it is gonna be hard to find parts for my 23 year old boat. This kinda stinks.

You have to pull the new wire through, if you try to splice it, you'll ruin it.

Hmm my '88 has the pitot tube style, I just changed it finally, it never worked because it probably was clogged up with marine growth. You sure that was the speedo wheel and not a transom mount transducer for a depth finder?
I think mine came with a depth finder glued to the inside of the hull, but there was never one on the dashboard. Maybe the POs removed it. I had a 15 year old Humminbird that worked on an off (probably just needed a new transducer) but I replaced it with a Garmin 441s GPS/sounder. I was happy to note that when I remove d both the old transducer and the speedo pitot mount no water came out of the transom.

My 99 LS has that paddle wheel for the speedometer. I have the gauge cluster that is the automotive style, all in one thing. It stopped working right after I got the boat. I bought a wheel and plugged it in, spun it and the speedo registered. Then, in a moment of shear laziness, I cut the wire and spliced it instead of pulling it through, I ruined it and it has never worked. I have a Garmin street pilot type GPS that I use for speed now. A lot more accurate anyway. I posted the link, but I didn't notice that they are out of stock. For the price they want, my opinion is to go the GPS route.

I don't think it is a transducer for a depth finder because I have on the dash and it works. Mine may be like yours that has it glued inside the hull, not sure need to do a little more investigating tho. Pickled when you cut it and spliced it what wires were in the tube? I am asking cause this might make it easier to ID.

I just got off the phone from the dealer, they contacted FourWinns and guess what they don't have anything like that in stock. So the search continues. The dealer suggested I change out the speedo to a pressure one. I think that a working speedo is not a big deal, as they hardly work good anyway. I always use my GPS on my phone anyway. By the way you guys on here ROCK.

You're probably right then, I never tried to trace the wires on mine to see where they go. I think I'd just use a gps for speed. I tested the speedo and it worked when I blew some compressed air in the tube on the transom. Since I have both now I can see how close the speedo comes to the gps.

I bet if you searched around on the net you find one of those paddle wheel senders. I bet West Marine could source one.

The mid 1990s to early 2000s FW boats used Airmar paddle wheel transducers. It's likely the early 1990s ones did as well. The Airmar website site has a cross reference list where you can put in gauge manufacturers and search if there's a current Airmar transducer that's compatible.

I think GPS is the way to go. I have tested it against my sreedo in the truck and the wife's minivan and seems to be pretty accurate. If I ever find the need for one on the dash I will probably get on but for now GPS will do fine.
