I should say, I have an Interstate distributor (regional?) nearby so getting them replaced is easy for me. If I didn't have that, I'd be much more tempted to go with an easier-to-find brand.

I babied my Interstate and it died in less than 3 years. I replaced it with a Duralast marine battery from Autozone as it had the same specs (800cca)

I used to spend the big money on Interstates, and still like the brand but for the money and the three year warranty I have been buying Wal Mart Everstarts and have gotten pretty much the three years out of them. I even returned one because some debris in my battery box chafed a hole in the case and drained the battery. No questions asked, here is your new replacement. Granted, their "marine" batteries only come with a one year warranty, but for a cranking battery in a multi battery setup, you can still get a regular automotive battery and have the three year warranty as long as you don't make a big deal out of the fact that it wasn't in a car.

I think its interesting that no one has mentioned AGM. Size for size, there better than any flooded starting or deep cycle battery. You don't need to tricker charge them over the winter. I leave them in all wither long and my oldest has a date of 2008 and still strong.

When I traded in my old boat this past winter, I made them take the batteries out & put them in the new boat. He installed the "08" battery on the port engine and it crankeded right over. It made him think twice with a 5 year old battery and its still under a prorated warranty for the next 3 years.

Paul I, I read your post about the 400 month prorated warranty and thought, "that must be one hell of a battery!" Then I read a few posts down and was like..awwww :(

48 month repl and 100 month pro rate is still pretty darn good though!

Still pretty respectable in my book... My rule of thumb is if you get 5 years out of almost anything manufactured today, you have done exceptionally well...

Last time I got batteries I went with AGMs bought via Amazon. Free shipping too. That alone made the price significantly lower than just about anywhere else.
