Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Have an annoying problem with my Cruisair SXF 5,000 BTU system. The displayed in-cabin air temperature on the SMX IR remote unit in the cabin is way off. It'll be 65 degrees in the cabin and the remote will say 81 degrees. I tried recalibrating the sensor per Cruisair instructions, but I believe I have a defective sensor. Does anyone know where the cabin air temperature sensor is located for this unit? I can see a gray wire running from the A/C unit in the mid cabin over to the remote. I cannot seem to locate anything that goes to a temp sensor. Is the sensor built into the SMX IR remote? Firecadet, I know you removed your Cruisair system from your boat a few years ago. Did you happen to notice any extra wiring for the temp sensor? Thanks for any help guys!! |

Mine is located right behind the return air grill in the aft. I have often thought that was an odd location, but the manual for the SMXIR specifies that it be there unless you don't run your fan in always on mode. If you have your fan set to cycle on and off, the manual suggests rerouting the sensor to a spot in the cabin other than the return air duct. |

I don't recall on my 268, and I believe on the new one I installed i left it right in front of the return air grill. On my 318 it was registering an off the wall temperature, turns out it was mounted on the unit itself right in front of where the air was entering the unit. I remounted it and it does a great job. |

I changed my fan to cycle on and off, so I did reroute mine to under cabin dinette. Put a thermometer down there, and seems to be accurate. |

Hmm, thanks for the info guys. I noticed a small plastic clip located at the very top of the A/C unit that appears to be used for this purpose (to hang the sensor in the return air path). Of course, nothing is there. Wonder if it just fell off or if it was ever installed to begin with. Or perhaps the previous owner re-routed to a hidden location. If there is no sensor though, I'd imagine I probably wouldnt get any cabin temp. reading at all. Select “C” and the fan will run continuously while the system is on. Select “I” for intermittent operation and the fan will cycle on and off with the compressor. Upon entering the Programming Mode, press the Down, Fan and Up keys simultaneously. Hint If you select intermittent fan operation, you should relocate the thermistor from the return air grill to a cabin wall where it can best sense the average room temperature. Ok, so this couldn't have been any easier. Looks like the previous owner and/or the factory removed the sensor from the plastic clip and set it behind the A/C unit. Placed it back into its spot and viola! Problem solved. Sensor working perfectly. Thanks again!
