Hi,

Just purchased a 2006 FW 378 Vista.

The boat is in good condition, but strangely, all the Fireboy electronics onboard don't work.

This includes
  • Holding & Greywater tank monitors
  • FreshWater Tank Monitor
  • Gas Fume Detector
  • Auto Fire System

Are Fireboy products particularly troublesome ?

I did see another forum entry about a Fireboy GAS detector running down the batteries - Could there be some form of central Fireboy controller that the previous owner might have disconnected to save batteries ?

Thanks

My fireboy auto extinguishing system tells me the system is armed and ready to go.

In reality the tank is empty cause it rusted out.

My tank indicators and fume detector have not worked since I owned the boat. The fire system does.
I need to confirm the wiring is ok and then look into getting new sensors for them.
I think the previous owner may have disconnected the fume detector because there was a fuel leak at the inline filter when I got it. It had been leaking for a while because I found stains on the fiberglass. Didn't notice it during survey or sea trial because it only leaked a few drops when the engine was turned off after running for a while. I'm thinking he got tired of it going off and was too stupid to look for why.

My auto extinguisher system on the last boat just needed a new indicator, and it was fixed.

My fume detector had both a faulty sensor and "gauge" when I purchased the boat last year. The fire suppression system still works fine, as does the two CO detectors. The fume detection system doesn't cost too much, and are available directly from Fireboy. The fume detector does draw a larger amount of power than the CO detectors (200mA versus 16mA), and will eventually draw a small battery down in several days.

Oh, yeah my CO died also. I replaced it with a battery powered unit with memory recall from Home Depot for $25

Thanks for the feedback....it did give me an idea.

There was evidence of a past fuel leak from the fuel filters, so I wonder if the previous owner has disconnected the circuit somewhere - maybe the Gas mon, fire system, and Tank monitors share a common breaker / circuit. Will go down to the boat and check this out at the weekend.

Wiring diagrams are available online for your boat. That will tell you what's what.

I know for sure if the gas fume detector gets wet they do not work, I had that happen when a cooling hose popped loose last summer and sprayed it with salt water.

Thanks All,

I've got the electrician to look at this.

I'll let you know what they find.
