Hi, On my 2006 Vista 378 (Merc 496HO 540 hrs), both the Taco's jump about quite erratically when above idle. Anyone had this issue before ? Ideally, I'd like to see engine alarms and water pressure, I wonder if I can replace the standard FW tacos with Mercruiser Smartcraft Taco's. Any thoughts ? |

Sometimes a cool wet washcloth on the backside the next day is the only cure for erratic tacos. ![]() |

I have a pretty irritable bowel, so I tend to stay away from hot sauces or else things can be quite erratic for days. |

I've stayed away from spicy food ever since that time in Mexico..... I felt like I was trying to pass a flaming cactus! As far as your indications... First I would check all the connections behind the dash, and at the engine end. I reads like a loose connection, or possibly noise on your ground. With a noise issue, try shutting down and unplugging RF type devices such as radios, depth finders and even inverters. If this isolates the problem, then you have your source, and I have ways of mitigating line noise. Good luck on both issues. As far as Smart-craft... I looked into it last summer, and unless you are DTS, I felt it was prohibitively expensive. I keep a code reader/computer in my boat (Rinda; http://www.rinda.com/marine/marine.htm#merctool). It was $400, much cheaper than Smartcraft, and I can run diagnostics such as testing individual injectors with it. |

Mine stay firmly on the table. The only time they move is when I move them. Of course, in Soviet Russia, the taco bounces the boat. |

Thanks guys, You brought a smile to my face on a day when the bills have started to roll in for my new purchase, (AUD) $6,000 for polish + Antifoul, $6,000 for transport, $3,000 for insurance, $1,300 for genset service and I've still got 2 weeks worth of electrician's work, engine service , clears, icemaker replacement to go. ! Great idea about the Engine Computer Reader too...Thx |

Wow, I thought things were expensive here in the good ole US. $1300.00 AU is like $1170.00 US. What kind of generator service did they do that cost that much? I just received an insurance quote for a similar vessel, but slightly newer and it was $999.00 US, or around $1110 AU. As far as your original question, (or at least my interpretation of it ![]() I put smartcraft tachs in my last boat, but I did have DTS. It was way easier than I thought, but I followed Jnizi and fires lead on this. It was slightly under $800.00 US, so more like $900 down under. It was plug and play, probably had the whole thing done with install and setup in 1 1/2 hrs. Loved them. Anything I buy now will either have them or even better, the vessel view display which I like even better. Good Luck |
