Hey all,

I have the pre VDO dash (Faria) in my 1997 Horizon RS and on Saturday the tachometer decided to fail.
The needle is erratic and most of the time is now at 0 RPM...
I've checked the coil's connections, the dashboard wiring loom's plug and hit it a number of times, to no avail.
I haven't heard of any pre VDO dash's failing & was curious as to what to try next? Everything works perfectly, other than the tacho'.
Any tips before I throw hundreds of dollars at a new dash setup?

Well - just about anything can and will fail over time - it's not impossible to say the tach is fried internally. IMO - I would just look at updating that dash and replace it all. You could probably switch over to a nice Faria setup for $200 and then build a backing plate for around $100.

You may want to try contacting CDI electronics http://www.cdielectronics.com I see they did a lot of work with the VDO clusters, maybe they will have a better answer.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Cheers.
I'm about to order a complete new Faria dash assembly with individual gauges from Dave @ A&A Marine.

Yeah - several people I found online have ended up doing the same with their setups. Best of luck to you!
