A bilge pump is an ideal item to have power to, when you're away from a floating boat!

288 model. With ships power off, are the only 2 live items: - main galley fridge - main sump pump The manual seems to indicate this. Where I am looking to store the boat there is no shore power. So if above is correct and the fridge is turned to zero at the temperature dial (off), I should be OK to avoid battery draw-down during storage? |

Even with the "ships system" breaker switched off, something on my 2009 278 Vista takes an enormous current sporadically with no apparent reason. I suggest you disconnect the batteries. |

Your automatic bilge pumps will draw down the batteries. There always drawing voltage |

There always drawing voltage They might be supplied with voltage permanently, but they should only draw a current (use power) when the auto switch is actuated/ the pumps run. I had left my previous Sundowner ( dual battery) on the water for up to 6 weeks unused, with the batteries remaining charged. I'm lucky if I get 2 weeks with the Vista before the systems battery is flat.. |

thanks guys - yes I agree the bilge pumps are also wired in regardless of Ships System switch. Boat will be stored on the hard between sorties so this should be fine. |

Hmmmmmm.....We store in indoor rack storage and ship's battery (group 31 Deka Marine Master Heavy Duty Deep Cycle) seems unaffected after 2-3 weeks and even longer. We turn everything off. |

I think this is something you will need to check on your boat. Every boat is different. Some bilge pumps turn on very quickly to detect water and others have a float on/off switch which don't use power unless on. My 258 has always been plugged in except this last fall when it was waiting to be put on my new trailer which was about 2 weeks. Even with the switches off my batteries drained to zero. Now I don't know if the marina left something on but I turned the switch off when I left it and it was off when I picked it up. You can probably test with a volt meter. Turn everything off and check the voltage then check again a week later. If they aren't very close in voltage levels then you probably have an errant drain. I have a feeling my bilge pump and radio were pulling more than they should while off. |
