Hi all

2 new batteries... only ever use battery one to run stuff when onboard in marina (while connected to shore power and charging )
Today , disconnected shore power , and GPS showed voltage (battery one) dropping in 30 seconds from 12.9 to 9.9 volts.....alarm from GPS low voltage
Shore Power back on..all good....
Battery 2 started engine, battery one wouldn't even turn it over
Went for 1 hour run with battery one selected...to try and charge it from alternator
battery STILL flat on return to shore
Both batteries 1 MONTH old....

how can a battery that new be incapable of charging either from on board charger or when on alternator...
Do I have a bad battery?

thanks !

Sure sounds like a defective battery. Over here, any auto parts store will do a free load test and confirm if it's bad.

If you want to test yourself, just check voltage with a meter right at the battery terminals. If the voltage dropped at the battery, then you have eliminated all the connections as the possible problem.

Are you certain your batt charger's connected corrctly & hasn't blown an inline fuse?
Get a multimeter on the batt's terminals while the charger gets turned on. You'll see voltage increase if it's working.

Thanks....further investigation today ! Pretty poor show if the battery died that quickly after installation !
