We have a 1999 FourWinns 190 Horizon, 4.3GL PWTR VP engine. We had several repairs done to the engine in the past year. The engine was removed, rebuilt, and re-installed due to a head gasket failure. We are mostly past the mechanical issues, but an electrical issue has recently presented itself. Occasionally when I go to start the engine the entire electrical system will “trip” and go dead. All power is lost – ignition, pump, trim, lights, etc. After this happens I have to disconnect the battery for a minute in order to “reset” the system then all electrical power comes back and I am able to start the engine.
I replaced the starter last week and cleaned (and used dielectric grease) on the starter and battery connections, but the “trip” still happens.
Any ideas what could be causing this issue?
