Post subject:  Perko Battery Switch - 195 Sundowner

I am in the process of adding a Perko battery selector switch with a deep cycle battery and just came across a wiring question. I currently have one starting battery on the starboard side that is wired from the positive lead on the battery to the starter... then there is another positive lead from the starter to a relay on the top side of the engine (5.0 OMC Cobra)... I am wondering when I wire the common post on the switch, can it just be from the starter to the switch? Do I need to wire a lead from the starter and rewire from the relay to the switch?

I am under the assumption that it would be sufficient to just take the positive lead wire from the starter to the common post on the switch, while leaving the lead from the relay to the starter as is.

Any other wiring information would be helpful

Thanks

Yes that is the right way to do it. Common on switch goes to starter solenoid.

Simply put, the switch goes between the batteries and the boat. Any leads on the batteries' POS post will go to the common output of the switch. Minus auto bilge , power engine cover and transom trim/trailer switch if applicable.
