Post subject:  99 Horizon 180 Fuel Pump - Electrical problems

I just purchased my first Four Winns and it's a 99 Horizon 180 with the Volvo Penta 4.3.

My first question is about the fuel pump. Should it run constantly with key on engine off? I know it should prime for a few seconds but it is always running with key on engine off.

My second question is should the fuel pump change "pitch"? it sound like it is running out of fuel or something. The engine runs great and has good power and fuel economy.

And my last question for now is can someone send me a picture of the fuel pump and electrical connections on their boat? Or a wiring diagram? Someone has cut and spliced two purple wires from the boat harness directly to the fuel pump relay and choke.
Thanks!

You should have an oil pressure switch that disables the fuel pump when there's no oil pressure (safety requirement).
I'd start there, or look at your fuel filter for blockage.
The pitch change is normal, as it's variable speed.

The oil pressure switch has been bypassed by the last owner. Where could I find a wiring diagram?
Also when running the engine with the muffs on it attached to a water source shouldn't there be water coming out of the exhaust?

Starting to feel like I got "hosed" on this boat

When running on muffs, most of the water (and some of the exhaust) comes back out an exhaust opening near the bottom of the transom shield. Little water comes out the prop. This is normal for Cobra / Volvo Penta
